I have a Vizio VP42 HDTV plasma tv. The picture wil not turn on and the sound works. The TV is 2 & 1/2 years old and is no longer under warranty, but costco concierge went through the some simple steps (eg power down tv) with no result. The techinician said it is probably the backlight, but it is my understanding from reading this forum that Plasma don't have backlights? They are going to get a techinician from Vizio on a conference call tomorrow to try to diagnose the problem.
Any sugestions on how to best diagnose the problem inexpensively.

There is no backlight on plasma TVs. If you have a black screen than most likely one of your sustain boards are gone. Board can be purchased on line at about $100. If your TV has no signs of life it's most likely the power board. Any way it would not be that expensive to fix if you are able to take the TV apart and swap the boards. But I need to say that I recommend to do it ONLY if you are qualified enough. Otherwise ask your local TV repair company to service your TV.
