My disk drive doesn't detect burning media.

I have Windows 7 Beta on my laptop, and my disk drive doesn't work right. It doesn't detect burning media. It reads burnt disk, and Rom fine. It is GSA-T20N with updated firmware. I sent it into Gateway because of this problem and others. They told me that the drive passed factory settings test so they didn't replace my unit. I think its either a bad driver or a bad Windows 7 Driver.

Fredy this is not what I am talking about. The computer is not even detecting media to burn. Windows xp, vista, and 7 all have burning programs built into explorer itself. Even if they suck. I put the DVD+R in the disk tray and it won't even detect a disk even present. Its not a 3rd party software issue. Its either a Driver issue with windows 7 or a hardware issue with the actual dvd drive.

You MUST have software that is for burning a CD.

Some examples are "CD Creator", "Nero" and others.

These programs are OFTEN not included and MUST be purchased seperately.

Can't reset windows 7 logon password as error

try this :
  1. Download the Reset Windows Password utility onto an alternative computer. Unzip the download file, you'll get the ResetWindowsPwd.iso file. Burn the ISO file to CD using an CD burning software such as ISO2Disc orBurnCDCC.
  2. Set your Windows 7 laptop to boot from the Live CD. To boot from the CD-ROM drive, you may need to press a key such as F8 or F12 while your computer is starting up and set CD/DVD as the first boot device in BIOS.
  3. After the CD boots, you will have a mini operating system loaded into memory which will launch Reset Windows Password utility. It will not install anything to your hard drive.
  4. Click on the Reset Windows Local Admin/User Password option, the program will automatically detect the Windows SAM registry hive and local user accounts existing in your local computer.
  5. Choose the administrator account and click on Reset Password button, it will remove your forgotten Windows 7 administrator password in a short time.

Reboot and select proper boot device, pxe e61 media test failure check cable

The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard disk has failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty. First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Hi!

I assume you want to install windows XP on your laptop.
The XP installation disk doesn't contain the SATA drivers needed to operate your harddisk.

There are two different aproaches to solve this kind of issue.
First: (very simple, works only sometimes): enter the BIOS setup and find any option related to SATA MODE. Change the current option to something like LEGACY or anyway, to other value than the default one. Try now to do the windows installation again.

Second: (not so simple, but work everytimes): The goal is to create a custom windows installation disk, especially for your laptop. This can be done using a free software called N-LITE.
Using this software + your old windows installation disk + the SATA drivers downloaded from the Gateway support site you will be able to burn a new windows installation disk with the SATA drivers integrated. Keep this new created disk for future use.
If you need help about using N-lite, you can find a lot of examples and tutorial online, but of course you can ask here again about that, I'll be glad to offer further help.

Please let me know if it helped.

Good luck!

Windows media player let me burn cd but other software dosnt work

All you need to do is change the device it is going to burn the files to. Apparently it is currently set to burn an .nrg image file to your hard disk. If you click on the down arrow next to the Image Drive, you will see your DVD/CD drives listed there.
