I don't know that you necessarily have to get rid of your computer. I have a G4 circa 2000 with 400 MHz processor. I run Tiger OS 10.4.1 and can run Illustrator CS on my machine.
It is not running at lightspeed mind you but it still works fine.
There may be some interim updates that you need before going to leopard... I would try talking to someone at an apple store or call tech support about it. Apple is really good about customer service.
Your eMac has to be "younger" than my tower G4 Gigabit Ethernet model so don't give up too soon. I don't think CS3 will use like 50% more resources compared to CS so your computer should be able to handle it.
Good luck,
With software and computers changing constantly-I use older software for older macs. You will continuously run into problems dealing with new software and old computers. See if you can find older versions that still run great rather than the creative suite. Stick with earlier system software as well. Now days 640 for memory is not much because of the increase in software space use. You can also allocate memory to certain software you use most.

Thank you for your reply, it looks like that I will have to upgrade to a new computer............trubluejohn
Leopard (mac OS X 10.5x) requires a minimum processor speed of 867Mhz, according to Apple specs. http://www.apple.com/macosx/techspecs/
Sadly, my eMac 700Mhz is maxed out at 10.4.11.
Although it is still an excellent OS!
I am getting the same message with my eMac. Except it is a 1.25 GHz, 768 MB RAM.
This has system requirements for 10.5, but no luck.
