Ok i neeed help!!!!!!!! on my power supply there is a switch which you can move to 115 volts to 230 volts. everytime i switch it to 230 volts the computer wont turn on? why is this happening? when i put it back on 115 volts, my computer turns on. why is this happening PLEASE HELP MEEE!!!!!!
Unless your household electrical service is running at 230 volts, there's absolutely no reason to set your supply for 230. When you choose the 230v setting the supply REQUIRES 230 volts to become operational...Which is not going to happen on a 115 volt service.
You are telling the power supply that it is being hooked up to a 230volt mains power line. You would need to live somewhere like England for that to be the appropriate setting. In the USA it should be set to 115. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:WorldMap_Voltage%26Frequency.png for a brief overview of who uses 110/115v and who uses 110/230v.

Don't put it on 230 volts! What are you crazy? Why would you do that in the first place? That is for Eurpean outlets. you are supplying too much power to your motherboard and trying to fry your CPU and/or memory. don't do it. period.

never mind i solved the problom!!!!
What is the mains supply voltage in your area? The voltage setting must be switched to the voltage in your area. If you have 115 volts in your area then the power supply will not work when it switch to 230 volts. Leave it switch to 115 volts. If the voltage in your area is 240 volts and you switched it to 115 volts then the switch mode power supply will stop with a loud bang and smoke. Then you will need a new switch mode power supply and you hope that there is no other damage to the electronic components in your computer.
What is the voltage in your mains in your house, are they 110 VAC - or are they 230 VAC?
