Sounds like you have a problem on your power board. Most likely a components value is changing after it is powered on for a period of time. this is more common for a resister or capacitor. Do you have any power when it will not turn on, A power led blinking etc quick screen flash etc.
Most likely the bad component (s) will continue to deteriorate until it will not turn on at all. Also it is possible operating your tv like could case more extensive damage. Sound like after its is pluged in for a time it faults and prevents itself from turning on this is called protection mode. When you disconnect power you are resting and at he the time it checks itself the voltages are correct. For more detail and possible solutions post your make, model, and any other useful info.

I have a Emerson lf501em5f. I had the tv stop working and only beep. I replaced the main board and the tv now no longer beeps, but it now powers up for only a few seconds.

Although you have change the main board you may need to replace the Power Board. Try doing a reset first

TV Reset-
Unplug TV from wall plug for 10 minutes, then press and hold power button on TV for 60 seconds--Plug in turn on--
You can leave it unplugged over night

Hope this works

HI NEED HELP? TV WONT TURN ON?

Unplug the power cord from your TV. Wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Plug the power cord into a different power outlet or power strip. If possible, try a different TV power cord.

Unplugged it. After looking for a new tv online I decided to try getting it to work. So, plugged it back in and held down the power button, a red light came on, held down the power button again and an orange light came on, held down power button again and green light came on and tv powered on. This was simply a case of trial and success!

unplug, hold power button, plug in. If that doesn't work, unplug all the HDMI cables, unplug the power, hold power button, plug back in.

My 39 inch tcl led TV power cord got abrubtly unplugged while watching TV. Plugged it back in and now the TCL logo on the start up screen stays there frozen. Many times already tried to unplug it, wai

Unplug the tv and hold the on/off switch on the tv (not remote) for 30 seconds. This should clear any power left in your electronic boards. Then plug it back in and try again.

Only getting red light

Is this when the TV is on or off? If it occurs while the TV is on, is it constant or intermittent?

Try this: Unplug the TV. Hold down the power button on the TV for 30 seconds, while the TV is still unplugged. Then plug in the TV and turn it back on.

Similarly, power cycle the TV: turn it off, unplug it and leave unplugged for a couple minutes. Plug it back in and power it on. Reset settings back to factory defaults. If all else fails, I would recommend pursuing repair/replacement options.

We were watching TV and the TV just turned itself off. We try turning it back on and we have a black screen for 10 seconds and then the TV turns itself off again. Called Sanyo and they said to unplug it...

Yes,unplug, replug the tv an hour later. The tv should reset itself back to factory setting and work. Not,than the tv power supply board have problems. That the board, where the power a/c coard plug into it.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

We had 52' HD JVC Tv for 2yrs and the other day, the power button was flashing and didn't have a picture and now it won't even turn on. We tried unplugging it for a while and still nothing

This can be a power problem it can be a power problem inseide the tv or a power distribution problem from your power outlets. So before you send this to a repair shop you can try to plug the tv to a different outlet by using an extension cord. I understand that you have tried to unplug the tv for several minutes but plugging the tv to a different plug in can make a difference.
