My Paloma tankless water heater turns on for a minute or two and then shuts off and flashes a C2 11 error code - what do I do?
I just had the same problem and I fixed it in about an hour or 2.
First shut off the gas, water and power(unplug it)
Take off the cover
There are about 20 screws above the electrical circuit board.
You have to remove all of those screws to remove plate that is covering the burner assembly.
The burner assembly has these 3 pins that look like number 7's
these are covered with build up and gas can't flow right.
That's why you get the c211 error not enough gas.
Take a wire brush and gently remove any build up,
I also cleaned the thermocoupler which is next to the burners.
It looks like a metal pin with a couple of wires coming out of it this was also very dirty.
I took a can of air and basically freshened it up
It works perfect now.
Email me with any Q's at [email protected]
Good Luck
All that you need is a long phillips screw drive and a drill because its about 25 screws
The burner assembly has 2 screws all the in back underneath the assembly once you remove those 2 the assembly comes out .
You don't have to disconnect any wires.
poluma sent me a new gas valve not fixed then they said it is the burner assy they dont kow why they sent out a gas vakve valve well i took the unit out replaced the new factory burner it had three wires coming off of it they are color coded to the circuit board so you cannot plug them in wrong also i transfered the orfice and flame plates well at leasst it fires up now but after about a minute it shuts down and flashes c-211 i did the dip switch #1 and performed the re set procedure still c211 last two times rheem said they will send out a new unit but every time i call i get a different tech and i asked abiut the reolacement unit they said there are no notes here about sending a new unit out i just want it to work how would you like to come home from sweating and greasy from working on cars all day to a freezing cold shower not counting my grandkids and my kids and wife for going on 4 weeks noe i dont know what to do at this point i was going to buy a normal tank water heater but they are over 600.00 crazy i spent about $350.00 on the labor so now i decided to take it apart my self i refuse to call out a hvac tech to do the same thing i can do there is really nothing to it just a circuit board a burner and a gas valve big deal mbut something is wrong they were talking about the 1/2 gas line they said it needs 3/4 but it has had 1/2 for 2 years what do you think? please help

i get the same error code did what you recomended it works perfect. called paloma tech surpport they wanted me to call a plummer again just like last year! i can take it apart in 20 min. now just how to clean it a little emery cloth all back together total 45min tops thanks!! home depot should think very seriously about cancelling thier contract with la paloma water heaters very bad tech support!!
This was marvelous !!!!! Thx mario !!!! Its that easy 20 screws some emry cloth and 20 mins later you are done, hot showers again woohoo !!! I spent 5 hrs and $150 running 3/4 line from my 1" feed at the wall and was so disappointed ! I searched some more and found marios help !! After renting showers off my mother in law so my kids could shower and taking cold shower after cold shower I am finally free of this burden !!!

After following Mario's instructions I was unable to find the '3 pins that look like 7s', but I'm certain this is due to the multiple different models and configurations of Paloma's. However, I was able to get it to function properly... so far. While the code may indicate that the unit isn't receiving enough "fuel", I wonder if this could also mean oxygen, as air is required to allow for combustion. If the vent on the front of the unit is clogged with dust, it would be the equivalent of a carburetor running too rich. Unfortunately, I came to this realization after spending a couple hours disassembling and reassembling the unit. I had just done some sheetrock and mudding on the wall right next to where the unit is housed, and the dust from that as well as what has accumulated over the last couple years had left a layer that was certainly blocking some air-flow. So before you try your luck as to whether your unit disassembles in the same way Mario's does, check this first. It's the screen right on the front of the panel. Just a thumb screw is holding it on.
HAHA, check the simple stuff first. i found this forum when my water heater started flashing this error code. after taking some of the steps offered here it dawned on me that i had turned off the gas valve to the water heater thinking that i was turning off the valve to the furnace in the garage for the summer. DUH. always check the simple stuff first
There is even a better way but it does involve much more disassembly. There are two flame rods at the back of the burner assembly that you cannot get to unless you remove the burner assembly, which is what I did. Otherwise, you can only clean the three in the front of the burner assembly. There is an engineering manual available on the Paloma website that details major component removal and lots of diagnostics, including all voltage and resistance specs for the major components. I used fine sand paper on each igniter and flame rod, then brushed the burner assembly with a stiff paint brush. I happened to have a code 12 but it was acting just like was stated.
It now works better than it has in a long time. Those things get a crud buildup. The discoloration from being in the flame does not go away but the crud sure does.

did you check the filters on the the water valves, i am not exactly sure about your codes that are shoeing but if you could read it and post them, i know on some of the units 76 means there is low water pressure and the filters are behind 2 caps one on each side above the shut off valve take off the caps and remove the screens, clean them and replace them ,, make sure you turn off the water on both side first or you will get wet

it is very easy open the door to the tankless water heater, spray compressed air (the same we use for computer) and add another thin filter and the problem is solved. It's been two years since we no longer have problems and we are 6 people in the house
Thank you! I will try this when I get home. I hope this will work.
