I recently bought a SanDisk 4GB SDHC card for my DXG-572V. I put it in the camera, and I turned the power on. A screen comes up saying "Format Card?". I have tried selecting both "Yes" and "No", but each time I select either one, the camera powers off automatically. I just installed brand new batteries, also. How can I get past this screen?

Your problem is that you are trying to use an incompatible memory card.

The DXG-572V is not SDHC compliant and will only work with regular SD cards. In theory it's compatible up to 4GB but in practice there are few standard SD devices which work well with standard SD cards above 2GB.

Extra info to my reply above:-

To avoid confusion you should be aware that standard SD cards go up to 4GB maximum and SDHC (the HC means High Capacity) start at 4GB. The two formats are the same shape and SDHC compliant devices will accept standard SD cards, but devices built around the earlier SD specification cannot work with SDHC due to basic hardware limitations: this means that a firmware update cannot fix the problem. Your camera is unable to format the 4GB SDHC as it lack the ability to do so. To muddy the waters further there have been some products built around the SDHC standard which were shipped with firmware for the earlier standard which can be updated but your camera is definitely not one of them.

The DXG-572V is a remarkable flash-RAM video camera in one respect only: the price. It packs an awful lot into a US$99 retail price tag but at that price the manufacturer won't have paid the licence fees needed to incorporate SDHC technology.

As I indicated in my first reply, stick to regular SD cards and you'll be fine, and best stick to 2GB maximum unless you can try a 4GB before you buy. You will probably find that various processes on the camera take significantly longer using a 4GB card though and you may even find that it doesn't actually work properly at all on a 4GB card.

I hope that you've found my answer to be of assistance and that you return the favour by rating my answer.

If you've tried to format the cards in the camera and it failed, it's probably because the cards are SDHC cards instead of SD. With a camera as old as yours, SDHC cards hadn't come out yet.

I purchased a new memory card and after putting it in the camera, an error message popped up saying that the camera could not read the card. I tried it in another camera as well and got a similar error...

The problem is that your camera is only compatible with SD cards, not SDHC cards. You bought a larger card for your older camera, not noticing that it was SDHC (or not knowing that it mattered). The new card doesn't work, not because it or the camera is broken, but because it's not compatible.

Cards up to 2Gb are generally SD.
Cards of 4Gb are generally SDHC.
Cards over 8Gb have to be SDHC.

(There are exceptions. Sometimes, manufacturers make 4Gb SDHC cards but some have errors; they disable half of the chip and sell it as 2Gb, but it's still SDHC. 4Gb cards are almost always SDHC because they're cheaper, but 4Gb SD cards do exist. They are so rare that I've even seen a guru on this site claim they don't. I did own one once, but it was very expensive and turned out to be so unreliable that I had to return it. I don't recommend looking for one, because of the problems.)

Your solution is to go find a 2Gb card, and be extra sure that it doesn't say "SDHC" on it.

The Optio S4 works with MMC and SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible. You need to go with cards 2GB and smaller.

A 4GB memory card will be an SDHC type. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

Have a Kodak EasyShare C743, bought a SanDisk, won't format

Your camera was designed before the SDHC format came out. Sorry, your camera can only use standard SD cards, those usually 2GB or less. An SDHC card will not be recognized properly by your camera. If you really want to use a 4GB card, do a Google search for SD and "non hc", with the non hc in quotes. Believe that Transcend makes one.
