Check to see if brake lever is stuck on trans, keeping the brakes locked. should not be any squalling noises. Also make sure belt is routed right. and all idlers spin free.
I'm going to take a shot at this one.
Is your input pulley (on the drive) vertical?
If so, just reverse the way the belt goes onto it.
Let me know.
Gary
on the back of the mower you will need to remove the back there is a hose comeing out of the trans its a vent tub remove the plug and put some good 30 w oil in the tub tha should fix it
I had the same problem so I looked under the mower and the belt that goes from the engine to the back of the mower was off so I pushed the clutch as far forward as I could and the belt went on it and it worked
sorry. I don't have an ansewer for you however I might have some helpful hints. Your mower should be going dam near 5 MPH. But yes can't cut in reverse. you have a belt going from the trans axle to the motor. It could be slapping against the frame. The idler puller or the tension pulley could be wobaly where the bearings are gone out. If you remove the 4 bolts on the back of the mower under the seat and gas tank it should visable tell you the story. My question is mine hits gears real hard as if trans mission needs oil or internal damage.
