Does my new Emachine laptop have no dial up modem?

first you must have an ISP Internet Service provider contract which will provide you with a modem and leads you can choose either a dial up usb or

an ethernet connection to connect to the internet or
if you have a laptop you can choose a wireless usb modem

which can work on a desktop aswell once you recieve the modem just insert the disk provided and follow the prompts to set up your new internet connection

during the setup process you will be asked for a password I suggest you make a log of all pass words used outside of your computer incase of memory lapses

Get a external modem and try that, But first try and connect network.Start- Control panel , delete current Network and make new one. If its Vista it will repair itself. just follow the bouncing prompt

try downloading updated drivers for your modem and...please make sure the phone cord is plugged into the line side and not the side with the pic of a phone on the modem.

yes, you need a modem... in order for the signals to be translated...

If you have a router on your broadband, you need a RJ45 network cable - right next to the modem port on your laptop is a network port - this will use the correct cables you need to connect to your router.

If you don't have a router but only a broadband modem, just connect it to the USB port on your laptop, install the software and you should be good to go.

The easyest thing to di is to get a new modem for tour computer sence they are pretty cheap.

you can look on emachiens site and get the drivers from them and try to reinstall.

go to the control panel, internet options, connections tab, then check mark "never dial a connection".
then try to connect.

if you are using dial up, you shud not have a modem.. modem is just for DSL connection
if you have a modem probably you are using a DSL connection

DEFINITION:
dial up - connection using a phone line with internet connection; cannot use fone while on internet

DSL/modem- connection using a modem plugged in with computer and fone line; able to use fone even when on internet.

Try the following:

-Open the Control Panel
-Open System
-Click on Device Manager
-Click on Modems
-Highlight and right click on the listed modem
-Select Uninstall

Close out anything open and Restart.

IF (!) Windows is cooperating, it should 'find a new device' and reinstall the Winmodem (it's only software and a little telephone line matching).

If Windows fails to recognize the 'new device,' you will have to manually reinstall it via the 'add new hardware' path in the Control Panel.
