Starting up with anew ipod touch

I have just purchased an ipod touch. When I turn it on all I can get is a connect screen. Is this as it should be? Do I need to register on line before I am able to use or even just view the various functions?

I am in Japan at the moment, If I were to register on line whilst here on a friends computer, when I return to France inj a weeks time will there be a problem logging on to IPOD and registering on my own computer back in France?

You can register on your friends computer and all the music and data on their laptop will download onto your ipod.  Then you can use it. When you get back home, your computer will ask you to establish a new user name in itunes and will delete all the info that you got off of your friends laptop and put all your data from your computer onto the ipod.

To use iPod touch, you need:

  1. A Mac or a PC with a USB 2.0 port and one of the following operating systems:
  • Mac OS X version 10.4.10 or later
  • Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later, Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate edition.
  • iTunes 7.6 or later, available at www.apple.com/itunes
  • iTunes Store account (to purchase music over Wi-Fi)
  • An Internet connection
Before you can use any of the iPod touch features, you must use iTunes to set up iPod touch. You can also register iPod touch and create an iTunes Store account.
  1. Download and install the latest version of iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes.
  2. Connect iPod touch to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac or PC using the included cable. The USB port on most keyboards doesn’t provide enough power. Unless your keyboard has a high-powered USB 2.0 port, you must connect iPod touch to a USB 2.0 port on
    your computer
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions in iTunes to set up iPod touch and sync your music, video, photos, and other content. Your computer must be connected to the Internet. By default, iTunes automatically syncs all songs and videos in your iTunes library to
iPod touch. If you have more content in your library than will fit on iPod touch, iTunes alerts you that it can’t sync your content. You’ll need to use iTunes to select some of your songs, videos, and other content to sync.
When you get back to France, you'll need sync it with your PC. Download the latest version of iTunes then sync your iPod with your computer.

What should i do

Thank you for contacting Fixya.com with your iPod Touch question Jeremy, I will be glad to assist you.

In regards to your iPod Touch 8G, if it is not starting up, here some steps recommend you try in order to resolve this issue:

First, try connecting your iPod Touch into a different USB port of your computer or notebook to see if it turns on.

If that does not work, then try connecting the device using your USB dock cable with the power socket adapter, into a wall socket and try turning the iPod Touch on.

If this does not work, try connecting your iPod Touch to your computer once again and see if it at least shows up in iTunes under "Devices".

If it does, but the screen still does not come on, try this procedure:

What you can do, in order to resolve this issue, is start by resetting your iPod Touch.
(Note: this does not remove any settings, data or media you have installed in your device)
• To perform a hard reset, press and hold your Sleep and Home Menu buttons for approximately 10 seconds.
• If you your screen turns on, the goes black that is ok- just release both keys.

• If it does come on, the next screens you should see after the black screen, is the Apple logo screen followed by the main screen.

If your iPod Touch remains unresponsive during this entire process, I would have to classify this as a hardware issue and you will need to take your iPod Touch into to your local Apple retail store Genius Bar (need to make a reservation at: apple.com/retail) or your local Apple authorized service provider and have a diagnosis performed on the device to determine why it is not powering on for you.

If you have more questions, please do not hesitate to reply back to this post.

Thank you.

Regards,

My ipod touch is craked

Hi

The only solution to this screen problem is to replace the screen.
You can purchase the screen for example from this website: http://www.powerbookmedic.com/iPod-Touch-LCD-Display-Screen-p-17191.html

You may be able to get a cheaper deal from ebay or from other websites.
