On old 5142 Rockwell/Delta/Porter-Cable router with a large old stye chuck ( missing collet) How do I remove chuck and maybe upgrade to a modern version?

HI. I think I have the same problem. I cannot loosen the collet nut on my 5142 router to change the bit. The router is super powerful and great for a router table but since I got it years ago, changing the bits has been difficult. Might try the heat but worry it could effect bearings and grease etc.

I purchased a 320.27683 router and table. I am using craftsman 1/4 in bits. The 1/4 in collet nut will not tighten the bit . The bit just pulls right out. I left 1/8 space between the bottom of bit.

Take the collet fully apart and clean out all sawdust and other debris. Does this happen on all i/4 shank bits? use only quality bits preferably American bits. I use Whiteside and Amana, Cmt is a good bit. If it does not hold any 1/4 bit replace collet. To my knowledge Sears has never made a router, they just sell them. It's possible it was a Skill, a Black and Decker, or some other common brand with a few specs that Sears had them made with (good luck with that). Check router forum.com
other people have looked for collets, there is many suggestion or answers. t site has them, but it does not specify 1/4 or 1/2

I am attempting to make rail and stile doors for an entertainment center. I am getting a rippled effect in the routed area of the wood. What am I doing wrong?

There can be several things you are doing wrong. First make sure your router bits are sharp. Also you may be feeding the wood through the bit too fast this will affect the finished cut.Just try on some scrap to change feed speeds until you get it right because if you feed to slow then you may get burning. Also a feather board might help if you have one. It will keep the wood firm against the bit and stop chattering as the wood passes over the bit. I am assuming you are using a router table?? If not you should be as these bits are designed to be used on a router table.

Manual Craftman professional router table model

I have a Craftsman professional router table, laminated model 26608. I can not find a parts manual for this item. I tried a number of way to find parts for this item. I believe this was made by Bosch. I can not purchase a Router table mounting plate for this item. it measures 7" x 8". with a center hole of 3". also 3" insert rings. Bosch and Sears makes items for a professional router but the center hole is 3 3/4 inches and the plate is a lot larger in width and length. I have gone to Bosch on the internet and came up with a model RA1171. This is a model like the one I purchased; however, they have changed the size of the adapter plate and the center rings. the model no. they show is 29LCN1428.

How do i change the bit on router?

On my older Sears router there is a lever on the base near the collet nut that you slide to engage the motor shaft to lock the motor shaft for bit changes. On newer models you may have a button or different mechanism to lock the shaft. After the shaft is locked you can use a small wrench to loosen the collet nut, usually by turning it counter-clockwise (viewed from the base). Once the nut is loose the bit should slide out (sometimes the bit is stuck in the collet and the nut may need to come all the way off to get them apart). Just replace the bit with a new bit with the same shaft diameter, tighten the nut, and you are set. If the new bit has a different shaft diameter than the old bit you may need to change the collet also (in general, different collets are used with different bit shaft diameters).

Craftsman Router will not power on

You definitely have a faulty switch. I used to have the same router and had the same problem. I had to take the switch apart and clean it. I got tired of the unreliability and bought a new Milwaukee.

New or used motor for a Craftsman 10" table saw

You can try Sears but they can be a bit pricey. I use to send out motors for a factory I worked in to a rebuilder who would even do new windings. Check in your area for a rebuilder, As for the replacement being a Sears unit they may have a similar motor in stock. Good luck.

Need router for table sears 25479 what new routers fit this table

Hi there. You will find that all of the non-plunging routers will fit. I recommend that you buy the most powerful one you can find for the money you want to spend and one that has a 1/2 inch collet, or ideally both 1/2 and 1/4 inch collets. Enjoy your new router.
