Please check your door safey interlock micro switches.

If you need help with this, please let me know.

What frequently happens is because you probably open the door while the oven is running, (like most of us do) the little micro switches get burned and eventually cannot tell the oven that the door IS, indeed, closed. When the door is "open" (forget that you know the door is closed - the MACHINE needs to know it too) the oven will not turn on the heat.

If you need more info, let me know please.

I hv a 24ltr Sharp Carasoul Microwave. Few days back, its plate stopped working, but its heating the food fine. Why has the plate stopped rotating? Will the food be evenly heated even though the plate...

> Why has the plate stopped rotating?

The turntable system typically consists of the motor, the coupler, the turntable support with rollers, and the tray.

Here is a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

If yours is not set to be off via the control panel, and it won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven.

You order Sharp parts Encompass here or call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

Microwave turns on but doesn't heat. Turntable does not rotate

The magnetron (the part that heats the food) is probably done, they tend to go out if the fuse didn't blow and it usually isn't worth fixing as the cost of the magnetron is almost what it would cost to buy a new microwave.
Sorry for the bad news.

Is it safe to use a microwave oven if the turning plate is no longer working?

If the microwave is still heating, but the carousel is not turning, this problem is commonly attributed to a turntable motor that has worn out and needs to be replaced. The following link explains how to access and replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3555716-replacing_a_turntable_motor_on_a_microwa

This is a very simple repair, that usually is not expensive. The price range will be determined by the model and manufacturer. This repair can also be performed on an over the range model microwave oven WITHOUT uninstalling it.

You can refer to any of the following websites for comparison:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The first three sites listed offer helpful exploded view diagrams to assist you with locating and proprly identifying the part(s) you need.

If you have any questions, please post back with your and let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: To answer your intial question, YES you can still use the microwave oven, but it is recommended that you stop the oven about midway through the cooking process and rotate your food to ensure it is heated evenly. Early model microwave ovens did not have a rotating carousel and it was often listed in the cooking directions to rotate your food this way.

The paint (or whatever it is covering the bottom)

Check the 3 wheels on the circular plastic part that's fitted below the turntable.
It sounds like they may need some filing down. Run your fingers around the wheels to see if there are any sharp bits of plastic that could be cutting into the paintwork on the base.

Clean out the base of your oven and apply a thin film of vaseline to each of the 3 wheels. This will help rotation in future.
Remember to keep cleaning out any excess food particles that may lodge below the turntable, as these will eventually slow down or stop the rotation, which in turn means that your food is not heated evenly throughout!!!

Sharp Carousel R-1481 Turntable

It may very well have have damaged the turntable motor.

The turntable system consists of the motor, the coupler, the turntable support with rollers, and the tray.

You can see and hear a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

If yours is not set to be off via the control panel, and it won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven.

On many Sharp models, you have to cut the motor cover off with snips, then use a screw when reassembling it.

Revolving plate no longer rotates . All else works, it continu;es to cook, but we need to move the items of food from time to time

Remove the plate, and check if the square shaped gear that normally spins the turntable is rotating.

If it is rotating, then replace the turntable gear.

If it is not rotating that means that the motor that spins the microwave turntable does not rotate, and must be replaced.

Sharpd R-420LW

I always recommend that folks put food off-center on the turntable to assure more even heating.

It's a stirring action, so imagine how inefficient it would be to stir just by twirling a spoon in the center of your coffee!

Also, when you put your food off-center, you're not putting it in the same spot every time. That will help prevent repeated heating of the the same spot on the glass, which can lead to weakness and cracking.

The turntable generally replaces the stirrer, which actually scrambles and stirs the microwaves as they come out of the waveguide from the magnetron. But some models, notably GE's, have both.

So if you're placing the food properly and it's still burning, since it's under warranty, contact Sharp at 1-800-BE-SHARP (1-800-237-4277) to see about getting it checked.
