Just recently the soap dispenser door is not opening on the dishwasher. The prewash soap is gone, but the main wash soap is wet and caked inside since the door won't open. The spring is fine, the release lever triggers, but during the washing, the door doesn't open. Is there something I can do to fix this?
Your soap is clotting because there isn't enough water being sprayed around inside. The water spray washes the soap out of the dish, if all is working well. My machine had the same problem. I had sufficient water level, but the spray head wasn't spinning very well. I found the end-most hole in the spray bar to be plugged. It is the end hole that provides a jet that makes the head spin. I cleaned a bunch of debris out of the hole and the mchine started working and cleaning like it was new. That was quite an axccomplishment since the machine is 15 years old.
The problem with this dishwasher as I recently discovered, is that the soap dispenser door hits the upper rack when it opens. This prevents water from adequately rinsing the soap out of the dispenser during the wash cycle.
This is a HORRIBLE design flaw on the part of GE and I don't see any solution to it.
Any thoughts on how to fix this would be appreciated.
This is a clear design flaw. I guess we got what we paid for. I am trying to use liquid soap and hope that will work. American design! Poor.
Mine dishwasher (a Maytag) did this also. At first it was becoming stuck because of the soap. My repair guy cleaned it and I switched to liquid soap and it worked great another 2 years then did it again. That time it was just wore out and had to be replaced. I was told it was no longer available but we found it here http://www.repairclinic.com/and our repair guy installed it. He was amazed because he had even called everywhere.
The little soap dispenser door will not click shut after adding detergent. The door moves easily and looks normal.
I dab a rinse agent along the rubber seal. My washer is new, but noticed with higher water temp, the door sticks. Not sure why, but it works. Added bonus, it prevents the seal from being sticky, or dried out. Now, every now and then I do it and don't worry about the caked, and baked detergent.
Tall items, like cookie sheets, that are loaded too close to the edge of the lower rack, can come into contact with the detergent dispenser when the dishwasher door is closed. This dish item can hold the dispenser door closed, or not allow it to open enough to fully wash out the cup. If this is happening, be sure to push tall items all the way to the back of the rack, keeping that area in front of the dispenser clear from being blocked.
Hi,
I
have an older dishwasher also and recently my wife also complained
about it not cleaning right... so me being the man I am tried in vain
to clean the things... Bought new spray arms online and installed
them in minutes...now the thing works like new... However I have also
found that if the heating element goes bad then that also can mess
things up bad... So I would buy new spray arms, and also check out
the heating element to make sure it is working... Here is a tip that

My dishwasher is doing the exact same thing and I am also try to find out something that I can do to fix this problem.
I just started haveing the same problem with my diswasher. I found this site while I was looking for something that I could do to fix my dishwasher. Any one have any advice.
I have the same problem with our brand new Kenmore dishwasher. The prewash and the main detergent are in the same unit. The prewash empties, but the main detergent doesn't. We are only filling the prewash now until we can get someone to fix it...what a hassle from a brand new product.
Our dishwasher has developed this same problem. We've cleaned teh door area to no avail.
I have an old Kenmore dishwasher (about 12 yrs old). The soap dispenser does not open while it is on. Has any found any good solutions?
