Hello swanaprslc,

It sounds like the "always hot" or battery wire is not connected to a 12V constant source. If you used a wiring harness, check and make sure that the pin in the harness that connects to the "yellow" wire coming from your Kenwood MP142 is hot with the ignition off. If you did not use a wiring harness, make sure that the yellow wire is connected to a fused 12V + constant source.

Hope this helps.

I have a kenwood it says,kdc-mp142 and all of a sudden it just says protect. it wont do anything

The Kenwood radio will generally give a "PROTECT" error if the amp or receiver is being overloaded. This may mean that some of your wiring may have gotten frayed, one of your speakers isn't putting out the right voltage, or the receiver has decided to go bad. Make sure all of your connections in the back of the radio are solid and not frayed. If that's not the problem, try running each of the speakers one at a time. If one causes the radio to go into protect mode, that's your culprit.
If neither of these are the issue and the radio decides to stay in "protect" mode, your receiver may have seen better days and may need a replacement.

My kdc mp142 is saying protect and not allowing me 2 turn it on

Your unit is seeing a speaker that is shorted. Disconnect them one by one until the protect goes away then check the wire and speaker for a short.

get in to "menu" (hold magnifying glass), scroll to "demo mode" (am or fm button), push volume knob in and hold for about three seconds. Should work, that's how I did it.

Time

To set the clock, you need to be in standby mode. Push and hold the B. Boost/menu button. Menu will show up. Use the RT knob up and down until you find "CLCK". Then push the RT knob down until the clock and ADJU shows up. Use the RT control to adjust the time. In normal mode to show and hide the clock, hold down the RT knob.
