    The switch wouldn't stay down

I have the same problem with the swith coming loose and rttling inside.

Can't get at it from the bottom as you remove the bottom cover, the underside of the element is exposed and is sealed.

That is correct, the flat plastic rod that pulls when you depress the on/off button is attached to a switch lever under the bottom of the handle. The rod in mine broke off right where it connects to that switch lever. You can either try and find the new or used part, Braun may have new, I have not tried their 800 number, can't hurt? I fix everything from scratch though and rebuild when I can especially if parts are scarce or obsolete. So I used some marine putty to affix the rod end back to the lever. Marine putty is a stick with two putties you roll together for a rock hard compound, awesome stuff. You can get at Wally World or hardware, auto parts, boat supply stores. I also drilled very small holes in the broken rod on each side and the lever on each side and threaded some thin stainless steel wire through, just looped it around without twisting it togethor before putting the putty over it for a permanent, wire reinforced, fix.The handle is not screwed on exception of one little torx screw at very bottom of handle on base. The handle just snaps together. The base or bottom and 3 screws do not need to be removed either for this rod and lever fix. Remove the top 'cover' piece of the handle first, then remove the two brass pins under it at top next to the on/off button second. So, the handle 'snaps' off with a lock blade knife or equivalent, get under the handle pieces with knife edge and twist the blade, it will pop off as you go, be prepared to break a few little hook pieces off underneath, they break but it seems to snap back on ok anyway. Crazy glue alone won't hold these plastic pieces together btw, try another way, wire and putty, maybe a plastic welding kit etc.. Mine works great again, once I got the lever reattached to the rod.

I followed his instructions, but I still cannot get the on/off button to "click".

The rod has to be at the exact length it originally was and re-attached exactly where it broke off, it is tricky but it will work if you connect it all back right as it was positioned originally. Also with the handle off try and push down on the lever itself with your finger and see if it clicks / locks down first, then its all about making that rod work again in relation to the lever. UPDATE: It is now nearly 5 years later and my fix and my kettle still going strong, no issues again since repair, good luck to you.

do you happen to know the size torx wrench needed for the screw?

  • atlantis43 Sep 02, 2015

found that it's a size 7 torx, but I also found that the plastic shaft is intact, so that's not the solution to my problem.

Alessi Plisse' kettle model MDL06 B/UK - purchased end July 2021. No longer working, tripping circuit if plugged in

Everything can be repaired if you throw enough cash at it.
Probably cheaper to purchase a new one if it has overheated and damaged the element.

Alessi kettle: The switch doesn’t budge, so I can’t turn it on.

The kettle in the illustration is designed for a hob and doesn't have a switch...

There is an electric version available at what I consider a grossly inflated price of £218 in the UK.

Like many other appliances, kettles used to be easily and cheaply repaired by any handy person but the arrival of the jug kettle and then the dreaded disc element made repairs more expensive than a replacement and they became a throw away item, especially as spare parts stopped being standard items and for most models either weren't available or were available but were priced not to sell.

I have little doubt the kettle will have to be at least partly dismantled to discover the problem.

I would like to know there are spare parts available for this kettle
before I started taking it apart because plastic can be an unreliable material after regularly being heated for a while and the process of dismantling a mass produced item isn't always intuitive.

It might be better to contact the manufacturer to check if they offer a repair service.

Dualit kettle on switch wont stay on

Had the same problem with a 3 yr old 1.5l Dualit model JKT43. The problem was that the little grey presence switch in the bottom of the kettle which engages with the pillar on the base had worn. I put 2 layers of electrical insulation tape around the pillar on the base and problem fixed. However, this is not a good permanent solution.

Kettle switch does not go up

If the switch is broken, you might find a repairer to fix it. But dont try any other way because of danger of shock. The kettle are very cheap these days , buy a new one.

Breville VKJ271 Colour Select Kettle. Lights not working and beeps constantly on stand by. Kettle works though

When this happens usually it indicates that there is current "leakage" in the electronics. You need to stop using this unit, as it is possible to receive an electric shock, well a small chance but? Either contemplate repair? I doubt this is an economic repair? better yet, or throw it away, cut the cord OFF/Disable it, if you do so. NEVER muck around with anything electrical that is suspect EVER.

Switch became totally loose and cannot be turned ON

you havent specified where the switch becomes loose and inoperable .......it is in the plug point or the base of the unit
if it is on the mains then change the point
it it is on the base of the unit ...
then give some padding to the base where the plug is connected then
it will start working////////
i hope this suggestion will solve your problem

Switch has stopped working, kettle will not heat water

Hi Bruce or anyone else that has this problem.
I had this problem too and after pulling the base off I found that the switch was ok but the problem lay with the two bi-metallic thermal overload switches that are connected to the heating element. I managed to reset them both and now the kettle works fine. This can become an issue if you have accidently boiled the kettle dry once in it's life. Best of luck.
