Most likely yes.

I would also reccomend an upgrade to that PSU when replacing it.

Something in the 450-Watt neighborhood is usually a bit more robust.

If you didn't accidentally unplug the four pin connector near the CPU, you need to replace the power supply. This is actually a fairly common occurrence with the cheap ATX power supplies being tossed into systems these days.

When I put the plug into the PSU for my sony tower pc the green indicator light just keeps flashing. Now when I unplug the 24 pin connector from the mother board the light on the PSU is steady green. What...

the PSU has Problem . It is not supplying enough voltage to boot the PC, capacitors inside the PSU are weak or damaged. Its dangerus to open the PSU coz, Capacitors have high voltage currents. If you have the Knowledge of electronics, then open the PSU and detect the Weak or Leeky Capacitors and replace them with new one( this method is for experiment and thrill) . But the replacement new PSU is better , perfect and cheaper then repairing the psu from outside. best of luck

I have a burned out Bestec ATX-250-12z power supply for a hp pavilion a320n. I need to know if a Dynex® - 400-Watt ATX CPU Power Supply, will work in its place.

yes it should do provided your current psu is not a small mATX one. ATX power supplies are pretty generic. Make sure you get one that has enough connectors to suit your system, having said that, Considering it's an off the shelf PC I would guess most PSU's would have the right number and type of connections.

Power supply or motherboard problem?

Hi talissap,

The blinking light is telling you something about the PSU. First check any AC mains voltage select switches for proper setting. US should be 115. Second if you have a multimeter, you could test the PSU for voltage. Disconnect all power to all components. remove all components from the board including cpu, memory . Leave the PSU only plugged into the board. Press power. If the fan turns on then it's not the power supply. The brand power supply isn't the best, I've seen where you need to wait for 5-20 minutes for the blinking to stop, at which time it will fire up. Now, if it doesn't power up, then it's most likely the PSU.

Good Luck,

Mark

Bad power supply?

Do yo have a volt meter or an atx psu tester?
you can check voltage to see

If a power supply is bad, your pc will turn off or/and turn on and turn off. As long as your system is running without and shut downs your good.

However if your pc is turing off, I would change it as soon as you can. basically what is happening, when you unplug everything there isn't much of a draw on power so the light remains steady, but when you plug devices in there is a draw and the PSU cannot deliver.

I hope this helps.

ATX Bestec 1956F Power Supply Failure

sounds like your power supplie has not been switched on by *********** board.the fan will not turn on until power supplie is turned on by mb.as far as what is wrong there are several things i can think of.i would try resetting bios. It sounds like your power supplie is working and your motherboard could have a short.but i have no way to be sure without testing. I can however tell you how to perform a test on your power supplie.unplug the 20 or 24 pin connector from your mb. look for a green wire, and then locate the grey one.short these two together(you can use a paper clip or something).if it dosnt power up. your power supplie is bad.also do not short any other wires, and only touch the grey and green for a few seconds as this is not how it was intended to be powered on.

My computer ps is not providing power to the mother board or any of the periphals. It is a Bestec ps the led on the back of the supply flashes very slowly. Any suggestions before I go out and replace it?

Disconnect the ATX main connector, bridge (with a wire clip) the green wire and any black (negative) wire, this should allow you to power up the PSU... now take a digital multimeter and measure the voltages on the 3.3v (orange), 5.0v (red) & 12v (yellow) lines, you will need to place the negative lead off the DMM on any black (negative) wire to achieve this...

If your PSU is off specification ie. more than 5% variance this IS your issue.

FWIW Don't waste your money on another Bestec PSU
