Sometimes my Tomtom TMC reciever finds a traffic update but more often than not it just searches. my problem started some months ago. For a week or so my Tomtom one XL with RDS traffic device stopped locating traffic updates and just kept searching. I called Tomtom who I think did not know the answer other than delete some files and force the Tomtom to update itself. This did not work as for some days later it still searched and searched. Then suddenly the device worked again faultless for some months or so until the other week it did the same again. I have been fighting this problem again for ten days now and last night all of sudden the device started to work again. Tomtom merely put it down to a faulty device but as you can tell I'm not convinced. I think its software related or related to the RDS system failing. Is there anyone who can help me solve this rather annoying problem?

I'm using the TomTom Go 730T - I think this is the latest and the last TT with Traffic because TT stopped supplying this option. I'm having the same problem from time to time but a reset helps. Just press the Reset button and after restarting the traffic option is back.
Janos
the tmc cord (should have a bulb-like attachment half way alone the cord - the radio receiver) will fit into one of the 2 holes in the base of the 720.
because tom tom uses the bluetooth connection via your cell phone to obtain traffic conditions on the newer verision of tomtoms they use the rds signals
Try resetting the navigator (using a paperclip in the reset hole in the bottom of the device). Then plug it in again and see if anything's changed. Remember that the antenna must be connected to power for it to work.
Are you seeing the vertical display on the right-hand side of the screen?
If the thing is constantly searching but never showing traffic updates, it's possible that you don't live in an area that has active RDS-TMC broadcasts.
The problem seemed to be solved when I downloaded the latest update onto my TomTom. Although it was not as the RDS-TMC Traffic Reciever information stated on the box supplied with the system, I was able the recieve a signal form a radio station.
I have been unable to prove the whole system as I have not encounted any traffic holdups to date.
