Hello,

it sounds like a damaged switch. It is best to have it checked and replaced if it is broken. It´s better to do before it starts running and wont come off :D

Ryobi 18v drill stuck chuck

easy to fix
with the drill not running

grab the bottom part of the spinning part of the drill nearest the drill's motor.
then
grab the spinning shaft bit nearest the drill bit
pull them apart slightly

when the two parts are pushed together thay lock the chuck

I own a ryobi hammer drill that does the same thing

Hammer drill is locked on hammer and will not release to just drill function.

If this peticular drill has a shift lever that is found on top of the drill, the gearbox as a whole is the problem. At this point (if it is not under warranty), I would attempt to force the lever to the drill only position WHILE running the drill. When DeWalt came out with this system 6 years ago, they had a heck of a time with the same problem with their 3 speed gearbox shifter until they re-engineered their gearbox. Several times I would see them come across the counter with gouges from flat head screwdrivers or anything else the contractor could find to force the gearbox from 3rd to 1st. I believe this is the problem you are having, assuming the shifter is stuck. Now if it moves freely, but the hammer will not disengage, the gearbox will have to be replaced. I will need your model number to find the exact part number. I hope this helps, and good luck.

Remove and repair or replace keyless drill chuck

Remove the REVERSE-THREAD screw at the bottom of the chuck. Set the clutch collar to the highest setting, and set the gear to the slowest setting on the transmission. Remove the power source! Get the biggest allen wrench you can fit in the end of the chuck(the shortest leg) and tighten the chuck down around it, allowing the jaws to rest and tighten on the flats of the wrench. Lay the drill on its side(chuck toward you, handle to the left, and allen wrench to the left, horizontal to the deck). Then with a hammer(soft hammer if you care about the allen wrench) quickly and deliberately hit the allen wrench in an attempt to cause the allen wrench to spin counter clockwise. Let me know if this works for you!

RYOBI hammer drill model D551H dosn't start.

The problem could be somthing as simple as the cord, or the switch, or it could be that the motor has failed. There is no way to know unless you test the internals of the unit. If you are not familiar with that procedure I would take the unit to a service facility.
