Paper Size Error

Okay...Trying to print a standard 8.5 x 11 b/w word document. Paper partially feeds into printer from previous attempt. I hip Print. Error saying "The selected paper size is larger than the paper in the paper tray. Change either the paper or the selclection". The yellow buttons blink - I press them -- printer prints about 1 paragraph of document - then spits it out, yellow lights blink again.

Using troubleshooter, I went into "Printers and Faxes" and the 8.5 x 11 size is selected. What am I missing?

Printer had been working great - came in from my days off and co-worker left note (before going away for 2 weeks) that printer is broken. Please help!!

Hi there check that the printer properties have not been changed.

  • Click Start
  • Select Printers and Faxes
  • Right hand click on printer icon
  • Select Printing preferences
  • Check that the paper size matches that you have got in the tray
  • OK and exit and test
If the above doesn't work try the following

  • Open MS Word
  • Open the document that you are having problems with
  • Click File
  • Select Page Setup
  • Check that Paper Size is correct
  • OK close and test.
This is normally a driver issue as the paper tray on the printer doesn't know what size paper is in it until you tell it from the driver.

Hope this works for you
Thanks J

Panasonic KX-P7110 printer won't print from the auto feed tray, shows error when printing is attempted.

Hello,
Please check the entire length of the paper feed path from input to output for a small piece of paper that is stuck causing a "Paper Jam".
You are lucky that you can still print manually as this usually shuts a printer down until the jam is found and removed!
Good Luck!

WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH HL 2040 PRINTER , LEARNT HOW TO RESET , FIXED THE PROBLEM. TRIED TO PRINT A WORD DOCUMENT , WOULD NOT PRINT - BUT WOULD PRINT EXCEL DOCUMENTS. WHILST TRYING TO GET STARTED AGAIN...

Hi Ron, I dont think you have a printer problem, i think you have a print driver/computer problem.

To find out unplug it (the usb) from you computer, turn it off so no data remains from previous print commands sent from your pc and run a self test by holding your green go button when you turn it on, keep it held untill toner, drum and paper lights light up, then let it go, then press the go button and the printer will print a self test....

If this works ok then we know your printer is ok. and your issue is as i suspect it is, with your print driver, paper size or tray select settings in Driver or in Word or in Excel or your document.

You can isolate if document problem by doing self test in print driver in control panel..

If self test on printer unpluged works and we have no error lights and are seeing the test ok and no flashing lights then you may want to ensure driver is good by completly unistaling the driver on your pc, do this by unistalling all brother stuff from control panel/programs and features (depends on operation system you are using).

Then with it still not connected, go to brothers web and download the full software and drivers package to suit your operating system, run it and only plug in the usb when instructed.

Let me know if your printer shows an error when not connected or if self test fails and Ill go down that road with you... if paper light on it when not connected, it tells us we have a jam, make sure you check back door and under toner drum and paper is sitting neat in tray

But when you tell me excel works and word doesnt, i dont think printer, it is software.Check your page size settings in word and excel and of your documents as the flashing paper light may be the printer trying to tell you the data sent to it from word is a paper size mis match to what the printer has in its tray and it wants you to feed the correct size paper in the manual feed/bypass slot. You should also check paper size and tray selection in your print driver in printers and faxs under control panel is the same as your document. Here is your manual

and here is where you can download your print driver (unistall old software and unpug usb first)

The more i ponder this, it is page size settings in document/excell/word and printer is asking you to feed paper in manual pass slot (above tray)

"Paper Size Error: The paper size selected in the

Problem may be the paper tray. You don't say what kind of printer you have and my psychic abilities are nil.
The paper tray has sensors that tell the printer what size paper is in the tray. Make sure that the tray guides are set correctly.
By the way all paper trays are "in" trays.
Print out a config sheet to see what size paper the printer is set up for for each tray.

The printer says Load MP feeder B5. how can I fix this.

Several options here:

1st - cancel any documents in the print queue. and print off a report of some kind via the menu button on the machine. if that prints correctly then it either a software/ print driver setting issue.

2nd - If that prints out correctly open up a text pad/ notepad and attempt to print that if the message pops up it's very possible the paper handling has been miss-configured within the print driver.
Now if the document does print out fine, the original document you were attempting to print is set to a B5 paper size. If that's the case pending on what program you are using you will have to change the paper size to you choice of paper your using.

3rd - open up the paper tray and confirm it's set to letter or legal pending what type of paper you have in the tray(not the manual feed tray). I highly doubt it's the tray however as B5 setting would not allow any type of normal paper to be loaded.

4th - on the machine hit the menu button -> paper menu -> confirm that the paper type/ size and source are configured correctly.

Paper size mismatch - c5280 hp all-in-one printer

I got around this problem by tricking the printer. The paper sensor, on my printer model hp4500 seems to only sense the paper at the beggining of the print job. What I did to trick the printer to print on odd size paper is slide the paper adjuster to 8.5 and put a regular white sheet in. Then put your odd size paper under it. When you print your document set the number of copies to 2 and print. The printer is going to sense that the paper is correct, and start the job. Here is the tricky part... one the first 8.5x11 sheet is almost all the way through quickly slide the paper adjuster over to match the size of your odd width paper. The printer should pick up the odd paper and print the second copy. Fool you printa! You should be able to do batches of odd paper size under the first 8.5X11 I hope this helps.

Can't figure out how to print on statement sized paper.

After I had been attempting to adjust the paper guides in the feeder tray to accommodate statement-size paper, I finally "discovered" the drop-down door to the manual feed tray.  Duh!  This is a networked printer that I've only ever used for printing letter and legal sized documents until now.
