I have the same problem My Sony DVD RW AW-Q170A was working before but is not working now. I think that I may have deleted some drives by mistake but I am not sure. Can anyone help ? s friends, i am also having sony DVD RW. the problem which i have with it is cannot able to read the dvd and i can able to write the DVD read the CD and write the CD.

I have problem with my SONY DVD RW AW-G170A is that the DVD cannot be dectected in the Drive but itcan read CD's.But the DVD read if it is First time used. I can open non dectectable DVD by using POWER DVD cyber link.So Plz help me if u can waiting for the reply................ I have a problem with my sony dvd writer. It does not read most of the dvds though all this dvds work at anywhere else. When i insert my dvd,"my computer" simply states blank disc and under the heading "type" it always shows CD Drive.
pls inform where i can find the solution for my drive.

I too having the same problem. My drive is writing all types of dvd disc. But one some disc can be readable by the same drive. And i was keenly try with many number of branded and unbranded dvd. The thing which i observed is The top part of of the disc which hava shining like striker are not reading by the disc. If the top part of the disc is covered with simple sticked it reading nicely. But it may be stupid reason also.

It reads DVD-RW but it does not read DVD R..
1.It does not read it when i install WINDOWS XP.
2.But it reads it when i install WINDOWES VISTA.

I have the same problem but just with DVD -R discs. In MyPc the drive says "CD Drive" and it appears empty...

my sony DVD RW DRIVE does not read some dvds problem, this is especially in respect of game dvds.... when the disc is inserted it does not show anything thereon... just a blannk disc..

I'm pretty sure I have a Registry problem with my DVD player on my PC, as it now only plays "some" of my DVDs and not all of them, and I've tested them all on a proper DVD player, and they all run fine!



I'm not exactly sure why they won't run anymore, but my DVD drive tries to run them, and gives up eventually after about 30 seconds on the DVDs that it no longer wishes to run...



I actually have "two" DVD drives and it's the same on both of them, (for the same films even), so it's got nothing to do with the hardware side, just the software! All of my DVDs are Region 2 as well, so it doesn't make any sense!



Does anyone know how to reset / restore the registry or format my DVD drives as if they were brand new again? (or whatever you have to do), as I know for a fact that the hardware is fine!
