I have purchased a sony playstation 3 and have tried to hook up the digital optical cable wire to the receiver. I still get no sound from the playstation thru the receiver. Everything else works on the receiver as I get sound from the stereo and tv when it is in video and tuner mode.
Here's one solution, if you have an audio output from your tv, you can go from the audio output on your tv to the audio input on your receiver that way anything that is playing on your tv for example, playstation 3, dvd player etc. Anything playing on your tv will have audio on your onkyo home theater system. The other thing I would try if you want to hook ps3 directly to receiver is go to your connection settings on your ps3 menu and change your connection method to digital optical cable.
I HAVE A HD TV WUTH DVI HD HOOKUP, MY PS3 HAS HDMI HOOKUP. I GOT AN HDMI TO DVI CABLE, DVI DOES NOT SUPPORT AUDIO. SO I HAVE A GREAT PICTURE WITH NO SOUND! SO I WENT TO THE STORE AND ASKED THE SALEMAN WHAT I COULD DO AND HE SAID TO BUY A SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM ( PANASONIC-SC-PT670) WITH AN OPTICAL INPUT AND THE OPTICAL CABLE. SO I DID, CHANGED THE SETTINGS IN THE PS3 AND STILL NOTHING. SO I HAVE THE PS3 HDMI TO DVI CABLE GOING TO MY TV, PS3 OPTICAL (OUT) CABLE GOING TO SURROUND SOUND OPTICAL (IN). SHOULDN'T THIS WORK...? ANYONE HELP PLEASE.
