Step 1. open up the case and locate your hard drive
step 2. carefully remove the cables and power to the hard drive and remove it
step 3. goto your local office depot, staples, walmart or radio shack and buy a nice new hard drive somewhere around 250 gigs should be plenty for you,
step 4. now that yopu have a nice new hard drive put it in the spot where your old hard drive was in the conputer and plug both cables back into the new hard drive, after this is done put your case back on and start the computer up with your windows cd in the cd rom drive and reinstall windows. :) hope this helps

Main screen with icon comes on then icons go out and a white screen w/currsor and freezes

You should start up your computer from WinPE, a CD residen simplified Windows operating system. It might help you to make some diagnostics. Get it from
http://www.uploadable.ch/file/mKD6atNTMRGF
It's only 121 Mb; burn ISO to CD and boot it . Probably you should change startup sequence on BIOS to boot from CD-ROM

Hello, whenever i type, my trackpad locks for a few seconds how do i fix this?

Make sure the scroll lock button is OFF.

Download the following from the Dell Support Drivers and Downloads page.

Quickset

Alps Input Drivers

BIOS

After downloading these update install if starting with Quickset, Alps Driver then BIOS. After flashing the BIOS laptop will automatically restarts.

After it reboots. In Dell screen hold down the F8 then select safe mode then press enter key on it. Wait until it loads in safe mode. Try working in safe mode if problem persist if not then boot back to windows normal mode by just restarting the computer.

If problem persist in normal mode in windows then i suggest back up your files then perform windows re-installation.

In doing the reinstallation you need to use the windows installation cd came with the computer.
Boot to F12 then insert the CD windows then select to boot to CD the follow prompts.

When i start my pc, it starts well but a page appers telling me to start windows normally. when i click on that then windows starts loading bt after 2 sec the systems gets restarted.

1.You have to do a diagnostics test on your hard drive to check if the there are any bad sectors developed on the hard drive!

2. If your system restart, when you just click your mouse, your system files are probably corrupted and your may have to reinstall the system ie. provided your hard drive has no errors.

Here is an option you can try.
Can you boot your system to "safemode"? & Use the "Dos Prompt" to do a "Check Disk" on your System. ie Run -> "CHKDSK /f/r" (without quotes)

Hope it helps.

Northgate not booting correctly from HD

If you can't get it to boot from last known config, safe mode, or anything else, you won't get it to boot from CD. Sounds to me as if the HD has failed.
