I have the same problem.  I turn on my printer and each time it is running a test sheet!  This takes time and uses my ink.  I have have HP printers before but I am disappointed in the lack of support on this one!  It is not user friendly.  I cannot find anywhere to adjust settings related to this problem!

I just got off the HP help line.  After changing my black ink cartridge a test page was printing each time I turned the machine on.  This is very costly, in both time and ink as the cartridges themselves for this machine hold very little ink.  I tried to learn from HP tech how to turn off the test-print while keeping my color cartridge empty.  It turns out that you cant do it.  HP requires you to keep buying and using cartridges whether you need them or not.If you buy the color ink it will use it up in its testings.  And if you dont buy the color cartridge it will use up your black ink by printing the test each time you turn on the printer.  The printer was inexpensive sure, but I'm paying for it in wasted ink.

Unfortunately, you have to replace both the black AND the color ink cartridge. In the meantime, you can stop the test page from printing - after it starts - by pressing the cancel button on the printer.

Here's a link to the HP page that describes this problem. For me, it turns out my color ink cartridge was low on ink. I replaced it and the alignment page that used to print each time I turned the C3100 on no longer prints out. Hooray!!! :)

Yes, the problem of the alignment page printed every time the printer started up was solved by just REPLACING THE COLOR CARTRIDGE, which was low on ink indeed. Thank you.

Where is the ink cartridge located on the HP c3140 and how to I get to it?

From the manual:
Make sure the HP All-in-One is on.
Caution If the HP All-in-One is off when you open the print cartridge door
to access the print cartridges, the HP All-in-One will not release the
cartridges for changing. You might damage the HP All-in-One if the print
cartridges are not docked safely when you try to remove them.
2. Make sure you have letter or A4 unused plain white paper loaded in the input tray.
3. Open the print cartridge door.
The print carriage moves to the far right side of the HP All-in-One.
4. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a
print cartridge to release it.
If you are replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the
slot on the left.
If you are replacing the black or photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge
from the slot on the right.

C7280 HP Printer. Both Magenta catridges wont print. ERROR states that they need to be replaced , but have been replaced several times and still have ink. Message also says print in blak only. click on...

I have been told that HP printers have a built in program that will make printer fail after a set number of pages have printed,
and if the NV Ram is reset this will reset the page count,
page count resides in the transparent, image or drum kit.
I dont know how to find this or reset page count but if anyone knows i would like to do this on my hp printer
please any help.
