Monitor goes blank but is still connected

The problem with the LCD, or LCD inverters connection. sometimes, rarely, drivers.

this lap top, not really a dual monitor system
the rear VGA jack is used for presentations, like a projection system.
what are you doing with this laptop, what is the reason for 2?

tell how the monitors are connected, in detail even there model numbers.
are you using custom or special connections to the monitors?
this pc has just one VGA rear port jack
and TV-Out (S-video)
came new with VISTA OS.

Please check the vga connection cable. It may not connected to the computer. If you have dual monitor support (2 monitor connection on the PC) try other vga port.

Did you swap the monitors to see if the problem follows or stays at the same video output port since you have dual monitors set up? Need verify before opening up the monitor.

you didnt mention the brand of the screen. this may be a input issiue if it has DVI and Svga and so on. check the menu to see if the monitor can be shifted to the other source. take the cable off and make sure no pins are loose or bent. then put cable back on. if you have another monitor try this cable on the other monitor and verify this cable is working. if it is may be the monitor. does the monitor work on different computer? if so check the back side of the computer, if desk top there may be another input for another VGA. some people overlook the port 2 where they can have dual screens. and only 1 is used for boot up info. try connecting to the other port if so. if the other port is DVI then hopefully you have a dual cord if not Ebay can get you a converter for 5-8 bucks. If you are luck enough to have a card with dual ports on the card generally only one port will work unitl you plug in the second monitor then reboot.

HOw about the light on the tower? if its stedy green then the tower is ok then run a self test on monitor if it passes the monitor is also ok then unplug the power cable from the monitor and data cable also and press and hold the power button for 10 sec and then connect the monitor to the system

Bad capcitor in the psu would cause this to squel and even pop so have it looked at you be glad you did.

How long has your computer been on when this happens? Does the power indicator light on the monitor change color when this happens? Also, if you jiggle the mouse or press a key on the keyboard, does the monitor display come back on?

Lower down resoluction and color quality to minimum on your pc, using 'display properties' in Windows. Connect the monitor back to pc with minimal settings. If it works is done.
If it still does not work there is a major problem with the monitor. In this case It should be opened and tested inside following schematics. In this case you may need to take the monitor to a service in your area.
