1gb ram will speed up your access memory you will notice it a little faster when going from web site to web site but to really speed it up you need a faster prossesor or / and better broadband

after installing xp your laptop what?
dont tell me already know ...
you cant find wifi,no drivers for vga and no blutooth.
you need to install the software for these devices separatly.
all the drivers can be found via net.
download free.
once drivers downloaded and installed system will detect new devices and install them.

go to the control panel, internet options, connections tab, then check mark "never dial a connection".
then try to connect.

Sounds like your hard drive may be bad or has become disconnected from the system. If your handy working on computers then I would make sure the hard drive is seated correctly.
