Your modem should have a cable going from it to the 'uplink' or 'WAN' port on the router - is this the case? Can you connect with a cable from the modem to the computer? how about a cable from the router to the computer?

Hey Sheila,

Follow the below steps to reconfigure the router:

CONNECTIONS:

1. Connect a Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the router (isolated port).
2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports. Please make sure that there is no direct connection between the modem and the computer (either using Ethernet cable or USB cable).
3. Power off the modem and the router after making the connections.
4. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.

RECONFIGURE:

1. Open the browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
2. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.1.1 or http://www.routerlogin.com.
3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on 'Basic settings' from the left menu and select 'Use Computers MAC Address' from 'router MAC Address' section.
5. Click Apply.
6. Once it updates the settings then power off the modem and the router. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.
Hope this helps.

You don't need to install a wireless router. unplug your modem, connect the ethernet cable from your modem to the port on your router labeled internet or WAN, and then plug in the modem and router. Connect your computer to the network and you should be online.

I just installed the internet at home from mediacom and i needed to plug my d-link router to have a wireless network at home and i dont have the configuration disk for my router and i dont know how to make...

You NEVER need that CD-ROM disk. :-)

Use an Ethernet cable to connect from a LAN port on the router to the network-port on your computer.

Click Start.
Click Run.
Type CMD
Press Enter.
Type IPCONFIG
Press Enter.
Look for output similar to:
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.123.456
Start Internet Explorer.
Type http://192.168.123.456 (or whatever value that you saw).
Login to the router (ID: admin, password: [blank]).
Click to run the "Wireless Networking Setup Wizard".
Enter an SSID.
Choose an encryption-level (use: 'WPA').
Choose a password for your wireless network.
Save the changes.

Disconnect the Ethernet cable, and click "View Available Wireless Networks". Connect to the SSID that you chose, and enter the password.

No internet through router

you should refer to your ISP or to the Router manufacturer on how to access the GUI of the router. problem could be both devices are using same IP. there is a collission issue there. you should change the gateway IP to one of your devices.

Linksys Router Installation Model Number WRT54GX4 with SRX

Booba,
With your question about the internet type you are right to set it to DHCP. And For the password you are also right. Now for the ssid that will be the name that your router will be broadcasting. If you can get your computer online through port no.1 on the router that only means that the router is already configured properly for internet connection. Now since the wireless is not working its possible that its not connected yet to the wireless network that you have set up where you were running the setup cd. Do you know how to view the available networks on your wireless computer? If you kindly provide me with the operating system of your computer that will go wireless on your network and also the model no. or the brand of the wireless adapter on it.
