Good day - I moved for my work and upon

Good day - I moved for my work and upon unpacking my shipment, I found that my Yamaha CDC-665 CD player is not working correctly. It will start to play a CD - go for a few seconds or even almost a minute - then will go back to the beginning of the song it just played. Or, it if plays the first song all the way through, part way into the second song it stops then starts to repeat it.
Or sometimes, it won't even start to play the disc - it just makes a humming sound from inside the the CD player.

I tried to play a CD in the various 5 CD player slots, but all have similar problems. The song repeats rather than plays through; the player completely stops and won't play anything, and inside the motor makes a humming/vibrating sound.

Any ideas? Can this be fixed? or too damaged to repair?

Thank you!
Peggy

First clean the laser head with a Qtip and alcohol. It gotta be perfectly clean, so wipe with fresh brand name qtip and make sure there is not a single dust particle on it. You gotta remove the cabinet with star screwdriver. Your beam might be tired. First try with the clean up! Unplugg before opening!

Yamaha CDC 665. Will read the discs but won't play help please

That is unusual because the tracking laser is a lot less less power than the reading laser. You can try a Cleaning Disc, but you probably need Yamaha Service.

CD tray is not moving in and out easily. Grinding

unplug the unit and open it. the tray is usually controlled by a belt driven by a motor. look and see if the belt is broken. Hopefully yours is not driven by gears.

Skipping yamaha 765

I have a very similar type unit, a Nakamichi CDC-3 that had the same problem. I found this link....

http://repairfaq.ece.drexel.edu/REPAIR/F_cdfaq6.html#CDFAQ_001

I spent about two hours fixing mine. The sled mechanism was binding somehow, causing random skipping. The first 10 minutes was getting it apart and figuring what was wrong, the remainder was spent getting all those tiny parts back in the proper place.

Look up the exact symptom before going at it (probably long skips). Set aside a long slow lazy day with nothing to do. DO NOT drink too much coffee, you will be handling tiny parts that go in tedious locations, so you don't need caffeine jitters adding to your misery. Take your time and be careful. It's well worth it. Mine plays like a new one.

The CD changer is locked and won't move

Open the player. (Undo the screws) take off the cover and nudge the tray gently take a look around and see if the white plastic gears are locked up. A little gentle prodding should loosen it up. Barring that call Yamaha!

My CD changer's disk tray keeps opening up, refuses to play discs

You have a problem with the try control circuit. It could be the switch is leaking across itself. Could be a problem with the tray motor control IC, or the Microprocessor is not reseting the open tray line correctly, or theres a cam assembly inside the unit that tells the microprocessor where everything is by means of small micro/leaf type switches thats out of alighnment or broken. If its seven years old, you got more then it was designed for and I would'nt invest a dime or the time into the repair of this unit. Time to take a trip to the electronics store. Good luck
