My gas water heater (Rheem) is making noise, like

My gas water heater 10ys old (Rheem) is making noise, like water is continually running inside the heater. I cant find any leaks outside the unit, and already flushed it out. If I shut off the water supply the noise will stop. Just wondering if I need to replace it.

Thanks, I found out my pressure reducing valve on the main water line went bad, so the water pressure was at 100psi forcing water into the water heater making all the noise. My water heater is fine.

It's weird that you can't find any leaks when it sounds like water is running. My water heater is actually leaking, and I've found the place where it's broken. I don't know about you, but I think I'm going to find a water heater installation company that can put in a new one. http://www.eliminatorplumbing.com/servic...

My Jacuzzi J-N180F tankless water heater will not even light.

Access your product manual.
I cannot find a product manual.
Some major company, like Rheem, makes this computer that heats water.

Call service technician to repair the unit.
Copy following link for overview of type of problems found with tankless computers.
For example tankless computers require continual maintenance on yearly and monthly basis to prolong expected life of product.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Rheem-Tankless-water-heater.html

If tankless computer is older than 5 years, then assume it is like your 5-year old laptop computer.

Save problems, and repair the unit yourself, same day, by installing tank-type water heater:

I have a Richmond tankless water heater and it has L1 error code...can somebody help me with this?

Might be able to help. Except L1 does not show on any error code file.
Copy following link for Rheem Richmond Ecosense etc computer water heater troubleshoot resources
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Rheem-Tankless-water-heater.html
Are you sure the error is not IL? Delime tankless.
Or UL flashes and indicates reset.
Or CL flashes and indicates fault history is cleared.
Or error 11 combustion failure? Call for service.
Or P1? Low water pressure, clean water filter check for leaks and crossover caused by bad single-handled faucet cartridge.
I recommend calling Rheem to find local technician who is qualified to work on tankless computers. Tankless are not ordinary water heaters, and they require continual maintenance to avoid common error codes, especially as unit gets 2-3 years old, after warranty has expired.
The required maintenance and expense of repairs, and general fact that people cannot make their own repairs, make tankless computers a bad choice for heating water.
If unit is 4-5 years old, it might be best to install tank-type heater for $385 from Lowes and cut losses.

There is a high pitched constant sound coming from behind the electric water heater......no water leakages, I turned off the electric and it continued. I ran the hot water for a long time.......it did...

Read following technical bulletin from Rheem:
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Noisy-gas-water-heater.pdf

Find age of water heater:
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/WaterHeaterSerialNumberDecoder.pdf

There is no valve inside the tank.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-it-works.html
The constant noise sounds like water heater is running full time, except same sound after electric was turned off. Is there a check-valve nearby? What happens when you open-close shut off valve located on cold water line above tank?
Is there a water leak inside house, or is TP valve running water into a drain line?

New Rheem Fury Guardian System 50 gal water heater model 42V50-40F. Loud low humming or drone sound when in operation. What can this be?

Hi,
Is the noise when the water is running or when the burner is running???

If it is just the water then the noise often is the flow checks inside the tubes going to and from the heater...

If it is the burner, then the noise could be the gas going through the gas valve...a bit of moisture or dirt can sometimes cause noises...usulally will correct its self after a bit of time...no worry...

poping crackling sounds and such are common with mineral builsup in the bottom of the heater....
Flush the heater and get the dirt out....

sizzling noises sometimes happen from condensation dripping onto the burner....gain not a problem...

sometimes the gas properties will cause the gas to make noises when going through the gas orifice into the burner... usually this is air or a LP air mixture known as "citigas" that will burn like natural gas but really isn't and it will make noises such as your are describing...again no problem...

Ultimately the noise you hear is not a problem but can be irritaing if the heater is where you can hear it easily...

Feel free to comment back if you have any more questions...

Sounds like a squirrel inside water heater

Check your thremostat setting if it is set to highest position it may be causing some of the noise over heating the water and making the noise. And you can put an insulated jacket on it to maybe help with sound.

Sounds like a squirrel inside water heater

Hi,
The noise is inherent in electric hot water heaters. It is the noise that the water makes when it is being heated by electric heating elements. Mineral buildup on the elements can make it worse, so changing the elements can help...but will not totally elimenate the noise. When I install a new tank and turn it on all I have to do is listen to it to see if it is working or not...even brand new will make a sound...it is the sound of hot water... :-)

Noisy Rheem 16 instant hot water heater

About the only device in that heater that could cause the noise you describe is an electrically operated valve that controls water flow. Rheem is a better-than-average company so I would give them a call and describe your problem to them; I'll bet that they will be glad to tell you which part you need and supply it to you.
We had a heat pump system from Rheem that needed only the replacement of one large relay and the outside unit fan motor during more than 25 years of service and is still operating at age 30 in our former home.
