My tv turns off by itself and makes a clicking noise

tv comes on. screen is black. then makes that snowy noise like when you lose your picture, but the picture never came on. then it will shut itself off after making several clicking sounds. sometimes it will come on after a while. is it time to get a tv?

what kind of noise? is it like an electrical buzzing?
a rapid clicking?

this sometimes is quite simple to fix as it cud be a dry joint on the circuit board where the tube motor sits.


or it cud be the tube is on its way out, which wud be cheaper to buy a new tv rather than have it fixed

The TV is in protection mode because of a fault with moving it and then coming on briefly I would suspect that the fault is a dry joint ( a solder joint which has fractured) finding it can be time consuming but it is most likely to be around the caps in the line output stage which need resoldering.

The flyback transformer are damaged .

you have a bad CRT causing the set to shut down. after the CRT has cooled down the computer finds all value to be ok then comes back on....

When the set is turned on, the computer senses that something is wrong and immediately shuts the set back off. The standby LED will then blink a code, a certain number of blinks, to indicate exactly why the set was shut down. It is possible that your audio output IC is shorted, as this would make a pop or strange noises in the speaker just before the set shuts down, which it does to protect your speakers from burning up. The set should be looked at by a qualified tech familiar with Sony TV's.
