The scan beam of the Kodak E#SP-7 is enclosed and would be virtually impossible to get contaminated. I viewed the scanner beam and the beams do not appear to be contamination. Besides, the black line is way to wide for it to be contamination. It appears that it might be a glitch in the system. Is there a reset procedure I can perform?

This sounds as if you have some ink/contamination on the small scaning glass that sits to either the left or right of the main glass on the copier.(Depending on the model/make)As your original is scanned over this thin piece of glass the scanning device will see any spots and this will result in a black line down the page. Please clean the glass with a soft rag.

Black line 1 inch wide right side ,when copies are made and faxing

Hi,
When the paper is fed through Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) is is scanned before copy or fax. The scanner is fixed type and is located just below the ADF.
The lines are due to dirty scanner mirror. The printer/ scanner design is based Sheet-Fed Scanner. Open/Lift the Control Panel (scanner top )(by pulling it up from front - the area from where the paper to scan comes out). Look out for the horizontal mirror and use a soft, damp, lint-free cloth to gently clean the scanner mirror, rollers etc. and enjoy clear scanning and copying!
creativetech_52.jpg
Inspect for any tron pieces of paper dirt etc.DONT USE PAPER, CHEMICALS OR ANY ABRASIVE CLOTH as it may damage the parts.
Also note that your machine can scan an image only 8.15 inches wide, regardless of how wide the paper is.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

Brother Intellifax. When I make copies and send faxes there is a 2 inch black line on the side of the paper, but not when i receive faxes. Do I need a new drum? They run approximately 189.00 so any help...

It is NOT the drum. It is your document scanner. 2 inches wide is big so most likely it is not the typical scrap of paper or whiteout that gets stuck to the scanner glass. Lift up the ops panel where the documents are fed in to be copied. Look for a strip of glass that runs from one side to the other. Make sure there is nothing on the glass. At 2 inched wide it is more likely that you have some of the LED's that light up going bad. Under the glass is a row of LED's that light up to scan the document. If a block of these are not lighting up then this then causes the black band to show up. If this is the case then you will need to have the scanner repaired or buy a new machine which might be cheaper. No question tho, it is in the scanner as this is the only area that will cause clean incoming faxes but bad copies and outgoing faxes.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Dear Sharp Al-2030 Experts: Paper Copies made from the cover-mounted auto-feed system are produced with a full copy-length thin double line separated by an approximately 1 13/16" wide distance. It is...

There is something on your scan glass. If you get lines through the document feeder but not on copies made off the glass then it is a dirty scan glass. There is a thin glass strip where the document feeder feeds the original. Usually something like white out that did not dry smears off an original and ends up on this thin strip of glass. Scratch it off with your finger nail and use some glass cleaner to resolve the problem. The scan glass is about 1/2 an inch to an inch wide and will be on the same side of the machine that the copier feeds the originals in on. Once the glass is clean your problem is solved!

the fault is a mark on the glass over which the paper passes when being copied. it is the rectangular glass that is probably only 1cm wide but the full A4 length across the screen. Clean the mark off this thoroughly and voila, fixed.

Line when coping from document feeder

If you lift the document feeder, you will see a narrow piece of glass on the left side. Originals are scanned across this when the feeder is used, so a small speck of dirt becomes a line when copying. clean the glass, and it should be good to go.
