Check WHERE the water is coming from... tie paper towels around the fittings... at the top of the elbow that comes out of the side of the disposal and points down, just below the compression nut where the vertical part of the elbow enters the P-Trap, below the nut on the other side of the P-Trap, below the nut on the bottom of the elbow where the vertical part of the P-Trap goes horizontal. DRY off the bottom of the cabinet and put a dry paper towel down...
NOW, run the water, get a good flashlight and see exactly where the water is coming from (the paper towels tied around the pipes will help you see which compression fitting is leaking) if the water is not coming from one of the joints, and is coming from the actual disposer housing, that housing may be cracked and need to be replaced. Otherwise, if you can find the compression fitting that is loose and leaking, tighten it. If that doesn't work, you may need to replace the compression ring (plastic washer) which you can buy at any HW store.

The unit works, but if the water level gets too high, while operating, it begins to drip from the bottom of the unit. Nothing on the exterior is wet. Can it be fixed, or should I replace it? Where can I...

Where is leak coming from?
From the pipes or from bottom of disposal?
If leak is coming from tubular drain pipe or around dishwasher connection, then clean out disposal and repair connections.
If leak is at bottom of disposal, then disposal is probably rusted out and needs replacement.

To solve high water issue and leaking pipes.
Loosen 2 nuts on P-trap and trap falls loose. Then remove tailpiece that connects to side of disposal. Hang rag over opening on side of disposal so water is directed downward, then turn on water and disposal and flush out the clog. Clean trap and tubular drain, and then reassemble.

I wrote ez disposal replacement steps, that also show how to take apart and reassemble tubular drain pipes:

Leaking from the bottom after removing something that got stuck in the spinning peace

Check a couple things.
Use paper towel and see if top of disposal is damp or wet. The basket strainer might have come loose and water is leaking down.
Fill sink and then release water all at once and check strainer basket and dishwasher hose.
Check where tubular pipe connects to side of disposal. Sometimes this joint can leak, and then water appears at bottom of disposal.

If top of disposal is dry and tubular pipe is not leaking, then disposal is suspect.
Disposals rust out, and dislodging something from cutter plate can open final crack.

If basket strainer is leaking, and disposal is older than 5-8 years, you might consider new disposal since disposal has to be completely removed to reseal basket strainer. See link below for basket strainer steps.

Water is coming out the bottom of my Badger 1 disposal. Solution???

Check the fittings, the hoses could be loose... If the leak isn't coming from there then you have a seal leaking or a rust through that is causing water to leak and would need to replace the disposal.

Garbage disposal leaking water from bottom

If it's leaking directly from the bottom, then it's the flywheel seal. For about $20 you can fix this by unplugging and disconnecting the garbage disposal from the sink, taking it apart and replacing the flywheel seal. I've had to do this only once in my entire life, so it is rare, but happens.

If the leaks comes from somewhere else and just happens to drip along the side and looks like it's coming from the bottom, then you've got problems with the installation. You may be able to fix these types of leaks by tightening the mounting bracket and/or hoses.
