Sounds like it may be drawing air around the intake somewhere. Let it idle and spray around carefully with wd-40 until it speeds up. This will reveal the leak.

sounds like a fuel issue if it has a filter change it and see if that helps you can also pull the plugs and see the condition of plugs replace the plugs should be pretty cheap to try you may also have gotten a little water in your fuel you can drain the carbsby loosening the over flow scews on bottom of carbs if you can drain into glass container so you can exaime the fuel that comes out for water or debree of any kind an go from there
Check the carbs if all jets are well placed, needles all at same height, float levels equal, collars between carbs and cil head all tight, rubbers not punctured or broken...
If the bike ran well the day before, and nothing strange like no oil in the crankcase is going on, then the bike is likely to be fine. What isn't fine is the starter. The starter motor may be running fine but if the starter gear does not engage then the pistons are not going to move. It is time to call the dealer and talk with them as to repair or replacement cost. If replaced, keep the old starter for parts.
You may also want to check out a starter from a wrecked bike. Google " motorcycle salvage yamaha ". Chances are you can get a good starter for cheap.
i fixed the problem simply by adjustingthe screws on th side of the carb. my dad had messed with it for an hour or so the day before... the next day he left town and after i spent 15 minutes or so dinking aroud it ran and idled fine. (of course if u ask him he got it close for me.) ( ;
