Playstation 3 games not working on my console,dvds are fine,icon comes up in top right hand corner when games are in but its not recognizing or running them

The Playstation 3 is a wonderful video game console, however, with heavy usage, the laser does eventually burn out. The first signs of the laser starting to burn out is that your game will start freezing during game play. Eventually the game will stop reading altogether (even though movies sometimes still work). Eventually movies will stop working and the whole laser will eventually die.

Have the laser replaced as soon as you can .....the ps3 itself is fine you just need to replace the laser only

buy a cleaner dvd and pop it in.. then let it "spin" for about an hour.. a regular dvd cleaner will work fine"

Cleaning the laser on the PS3 rarely, if ever helps.

It needs a new laser because the old one is "burnt out". It's a really common problem with them.

You could replace the laser or the entire Bluray drive.

I have the same problem. My PS3 stopped reading any bluray discs. The spinning circle in the top right corner will come on for a few seconds when a disc is inserted, but then nothing. I found a work-around to get it to read discs though. You have to have a bluray disc in the drive (game or movie) and start a downloaded game or Playstation Home. Once the game or Home loads, hit the PS button on the controller. The crossbar menu will pull up and you will notice the disc icon will (magically) pop up. Click the quit game icon. Once you are out of the downloaded game or Home the disc icon will still be there. You can then load the game or disc. The icon will remain there until you eject the disc, so you will have to repeat this every time you want to load a game. Although this is a workaround to prevent Sony from gouging you for $150+, this is still not a fix. A fix would be for Sony to admit they have a money making firmware problem and fix it. This fix will only work if you don't have an actual hardware failure (which I apparently don't). I think a class action lawsuit is in order for everyone that has this problem and especially for those who have shelled out the money to fix something that is firmware related. I'm sure Sony will only fix the firmware to make this workaround not work anymore so as not to lose their little cash flow scheme.

ur disc reader is faulty/broke a quick way 2 get you back on games/ dvds go onto a demo or if you dont have download 1 via ps store and go onto it 1s ur on it press the ps button on your controller and the disc icon should be there now click onit and say yes 2 quit demo and ur sorted u will have 2 do this every time

Your game read lazer is probably busted you have to send it in to the playstation service with a receipt and they will fix it for you.

its a hardware error and you need to call Sony and get the console repaired/replaced..i had the same problem and had to get the bluray mechanism replaced..resetting the console etc etc doesnt help...hope u get urs running ASAP!regards!
