Series of 3 blinking lights. manual says lamp door isnt fastened properly. it is. i tried unplugging tv, have opened and closed lamp door 3xl. still blinking.

SXRD 3 blinks means that the lamp cover is not attached securely. You might try making sure the door is closed properly.

Remove,clean and fastern the lamp cover

the flashing light is more than likely the fault code. but those can be wrong bet even money that the door has a sensor to know if its open and the the bi-metallic switch is on the fritz look around the door see of the is a small pressure actuated switch the opens and closes with the door if so all else checks out 85 % chance that will be you problem

I am surprised a Sony tech would not inform you on most of these models 3 blinks is door not closed properly.

What happens is heat warps the door----look on the back of the door for a plastic peg---when door is closed it engages a hidden lever----if door is warped (look edgewise) and lever is not engaged 3 blinks.

To prove it remove door and engage lever (tiny and right behind opening where peg is) with something not metal.

If set comes on you need to replace the door.

DO NOT LOOK AT LIGHT FROM LAMP AND DO NOT OPERATE SET OR PLACE OUTER SHIELD BACK WITH DOOR REMOVED AS IT CAN BE MELTED.

have you tried making sure the lamp door is closed ... generally 3 blinks means the lamp door is not closed the door pushes a switch closed

yes, the door has to engage a switch and if it doesn't the tv will not come on it usually has a 3 blink error if this is the problem. Is your red light flashing in a 3 blink series?

DO NOT under any circumstances touch the red wire inside the set. This cable connects to the picture tube and carrys 33,000V and can cause injury. The 3 blinks are a diagnostic code that indicate the defective circuit. Please confirm the model number as KV-36FS120 and I'll look up the code.

There is no Lamp door if this is the KV model mentioned above as this is a CRT based set not a projection set.

Check that the lamp door is closed all the way. There is a saftey switch that closes from the door being on all the way. If not the status light will keep blinking. There is also a switch on the air filter door.
