Stihl ms290 chain runs constantly even when idling and when u put the chain brake on it kills the saw

I really don't want to be "that guy", but people who aren't trained STIHL mechanics or at LEAST mechanically trained, shouldn't work on higher end saws like STIHL, because people with a little bit of experience can mess something up, then blame the machine because they mess something up and start trashing the brand when it's their fault for not knowing what they're doing.

Have you cleaned the oiling hole in the guide bar.? Scrape out the full length of the guide bar using a cleaning tool. There is an oiling hole at the back of the bar on either side which the oil flows into.

Is oil being pumped out the saw.? Remove side casing and guide bar, run the saw and check the flow.

Chain brake may still be applied.

The chain brake is the front hand guard, pull it towards you to release the safety brake. Check chain tension, the chain may be too tight.

Hi goincrazy, check that your carb tubes are ok, and your exhaust filter is clean, also clean your fuel filter or get a new one. Hope that helps

The engine is getting pressure someplace. It could be a cracked head.(This would mean the saw is a goner!) I would look at the dealer invoice and see what their warranty time is on their work and explain to him, that he did work that did not fix the problem! There is always the chance that he has a used chainsaw that he would be willing to trade for the money you have already spent!

sounds like you have a plugged vent either in the gas cap or the vent valve of which you speak. Without the vent working properly, the engine running and drawing gas from the fuel tank causes a vaccum inside the tank making it harder for the fuel to draw to the carburator. this would cause the symptoms that you are talking about.

Replace the gas cap if it is vented or check to see if the vent valve you mention is working properly.
