When I turn on the computer, the screen gets lit and the hard drive is being accessed, but nothing shows up on the screen. The screen has a line on it that rolls down, and there's a small bright light off the right edge of the screen. Thanks!

My computer has booting problems

try to re format first if can but> save all all importantant dava in drive D:\ or Save it out in External hard drive to avoid lossing of Files. about the program you can't save it will loss all then re installed again..

if you have Special program like program of your businness or work.. should be you have copy of that.. Data should be back up also if available and emails if you are using MS Outlook or Express Outlook..

then start the reformat.. if available if not check the inverter first of your laptop use another inverter to check it ..

Laptop won't power up

Have you tried to start in safe mode? (hold the f8 key while booting). This will allow you to go back to a boot sequence that worked. You will need to go to start and select restore. Could be under accessories

Hard drive not detected

this sounds like a classic case of hardware failure, try taking the hard out and putting back in again, also check in the bios to see if the hard drive has been detected. if you get the same result the hard drive has failed and you will need another one

Unable to see the 250Gb external drive shown on 'my computer' when plugged in

Hi - thanks for your quick response, much appreciated .........I will try again to explain!!

We have purchased a 250Gb Maxtor portable hard drive which I was told was plug and play. We have followed the instructions for connection but no drive letter is showing up and the external drive is lit up and making a constant beeping noise. The computer doesn't seem to be recognising that an external drive has been connected.
To test our computer out I have connected an 8Gb memory stick to the processor and it shows up as drive H immediately.
FYI - we have XP running on our machine.
Hope you can help!! Thanks

Weird lines on screen, freeze-up; laptop won't start again -- no bios, dead.

An easy way is to buy a laptop HDD USB caddy (2.5") and put your HDD into that, connect it to another PC to remove the data.

Powers On But Freezes on Start-up page

if this is one of those special Toshiba's with the bios/cmos on the hard drive you're in a world of pain. Can you access the bios at all? Can you see the hard drive or what can you see if you can get in the bios? I could be wrong- but if you can't get into the bios you may have a corrupt hard drive- and need another one- or the motherboard could be bad, or the ram might be bad too.
Try starting with the getting into the bios- and see what you can find out...
