Possible you need to reset the PS3 . Also check if the CD is reading, is compatible and not a pirated version. Finally check if the parental control is active.
It depends on which version of Rock band you are playing, Rock band 1 will not work with Guitar Hero guitars at all, but Rock Band 2 on the wii will except them. and for the microphone you have to have a seperate wiimote sync'd up tho count as the controller for the the game to recognize the mic.
Is the guitar wireless, if it is check the batteries.
My friend had a problem with his guitar hero 3 game and was forced to take it back.
Before returning it though and again this only applies if the guitar is wirelss. Have you synched it with the console.
The little button just next to the memory card slots needs to be held in for a few seconds and the same needs to be done on the guitars sync button. If you get 4 gree rings of light when you try and turn the guitar on i'm almost certain its the fact that the guitar isn't synchronised with the console.
