VCR stops recording by itself after a couple seconds.

Some VCR's will stop if the signal is not there. Retune the set if it uses Freeview. The broadcasters and those who are in charge of Transmitters like to mess around with the stations from time to time. This will effect the recording if you are using a model with the Guide Plus system. If you are timer recording it make certain that the settings are good. If it is an older model, make certain a thing called PDC is not on.

This is stupid but I lost my manual and can't figure out how to change the time on my Philips DVP3050v

I assume you wish to set the VCR (model DVP3050) clock. This is easy, just follow these instructions:

  1. Press VCR, then press DISC/VCR MENU so MENU appears. If the clock has never been set, the CLOCK SET menu may appear when you press DISC/VCR MENU. If so, follow the instructions from step 3 on this page.
  2. Press \/ or /\ to select CLOCK SET.Then, press >.
  3. While the MONTH space is flashing, press \/ or /\ until the month appears. Then, press >.
  4. While the DAY space is flashing, press \/ or /\ until the day appears. Then, press >.
  5. While the YEAR space is flashing, press \/ or /\ until the year appears. Then, press >. The day of the week will appear automatically.
  6. While the HOUR space is flashing, press \/ or /\ until the hour appears. Then, press >.
  7. While the MINUTE space is flashing, press \/ or /\ until the minute appears. Then, press >.
  8. While the AM or PM space is flashing, press \/ or /\ to point to AM or PM. Your selection will flash on the screen in the AM/PM space.
  9. Press CLEAR/RESET or > to start the clock.
And you can now have an online manual, click here. (Adobe pdf required) Directions on page 22.

MY RCA DRC 8320n DVD Recorder/VCR Combo will not accept tapes. DVD works fine. RCA help line is a joke. I will never buy another RCA product.

Yah, you're going to be taking that in for repair. I worked for couple of years at RCA / Sony / Panasonic / ... and 60 more names - service center. When a VHS Cassette loading mechanism doesn't work - it probably needs loading motor or loading gear, something repaired. At the cost of DVD and VHS combos these days I'd call it Not Worth Repair (NWR) out of the starting gate. At least $50 an hour, at least 2 hours ... that's beyond the cost of a new one.
