If you are asking how much to tighten it then it should be a little more than snug, if you want to know how to lock it to tighten I would need the model number to find out what they use. Please let me know and I will try and help

I purchased a 320.27683 router and table. I am using craftsman 1/4 in bits. The 1/4 in collet nut will not tighten the bit . The bit just pulls right out. I left 1/8 space between the bottom of bit.

Take the collet fully apart and clean out all sawdust and other debris. Does this happen on all i/4 shank bits? use only quality bits preferably American bits. I use Whiteside and Amana, Cmt is a good bit. If it does not hold any 1/4 bit replace collet. To my knowledge Sears has never made a router, they just sell them. It's possible it was a Skill, a Black and Decker, or some other common brand with a few specs that Sears had them made with (good luck with that). Check router forum.com
other people have looked for collets, there is many suggestion or answers. t site has them, but it does not specify 1/4 or 1/2

How to tighten bit on craftsman router?

If it's the Cable connector you need to tighten your provider should have left a small spanner to tighten it with.

I just installed a craftsman garage door opener and the chain is sagging on one side and super tight on the other. When opening the door, the chain sags on both sides. I have tried tightening the nuts on...

When the door is opening the chain will be tight on one side and slack on the other. When it is closing it will be just the opposite. It is important that you do not over tighten the chain. I suppose the wrong chain could be shipped with the opener but it wouldn't be common.

How do i change the bit on router?

On my older Sears router there is a lever on the base near the collet nut that you slide to engage the motor shaft to lock the motor shaft for bit changes. On newer models you may have a button or different mechanism to lock the shaft. After the shaft is locked you can use a small wrench to loosen the collet nut, usually by turning it counter-clockwise (viewed from the base). Once the nut is loose the bit should slide out (sometimes the bit is stuck in the collet and the nut may need to come all the way off to get them apart). Just replace the bit with a new bit with the same shaft diameter, tighten the nut, and you are set. If the new bit has a different shaft diameter than the old bit you may need to change the collet also (in general, different collets are used with different bit shaft diameters).

I need help on how to replace bit on router craftsman style

You didn't state the model number. The older Craftsmen routers had a red lever lock on the top of the router, one position allows the spindle to turn, the other position locks the spindle. Here's the instruction for the older style routers:

  1. Unplug the tool.
  2. To lock the spindle press the red button in and slide it to the locked position.
  3. Unlock the height adjustment knob.
  4. Raise the router motor using the height adjustment collar until you can get a wrench onto the collet nut.
  5. Loosen the nut until it turns freely.
  6. The bit may still be locked in the spindle, tap it gently (not on the blade!).
  7. The bit will come loose in the spindle and can be removed.
  8. Replace the bit, tighten the nut snug but don't use excessive force.
  9. Unlock the spindle, returning the red lever/button to the free position.
  10. Adjust the height of the bit as you wish, then lock down the motor using the locking knob.

I am unable to get a tight fit on my router bit.

could be a couple things. First how is the shank on the bit e.g. is it worn down, second is it the right size for the collet being used (have to ask) and what is the condition of the collet and collet nut. What I would do is make sure there is nothing to prevent from completely tightening the collet nut. Also make sure if the collet locks into the nut that it is properly installed. Lastly make sure that you use the wrenches provided to tighten the assembly. If this doesn't help please provide the model number and brand and I will do some more research.
