DVR-625 - Phone line connection failure

We just had dish network installed with a DVR - 625 and it works great except for a nagging phone line connection problem. The unit will not recognize that it is connected to the phone line. We have AT&T Dsl line and have installed a filter on the line to the unit. I enable the Caller ID feature on the 625 and all this information displays on the TV when an incomming call rings in. I have called the Dish network folks to the point that we changed out the receiver.... ? The new one works exactly like the last. The unit WILL recognize a phone line connection if I test the connection in the diagnostics mode about 20 times. Eventually, it will indicate that the phone line is "OK", but the very next test it fails. It will consistatly recongnize a connection if I first take another phone in our house "off hook" and hear a dial tone, then I test the phone line through the 625 receiver and it always indicates the phone line is good. On the "Off hook" phone, I hear the 625 click in. Using this method, I can use the "send Status" option. The unit will dial out and report that it finished.

All this to me points to the phone line... But our phone works good, DSL is good, fast and reliable. I have disconnected every phone line connected item in the house and tested.... no deal. Our "on hook" phone voltage is 45 volts dc and the "off hook" voltage is 6 volts.

Any Ideas or suggestions welcome.

Well it sounds more like the phone line is the problem in all the situations here the ones where you hear nothing at all you may have a short in the phone line which will not give u a dial tone

How do I get closed captioning on my 625 dish dvr.

Guest,

The 625 receiver does not have a setting to control closed caption. This is a setting from your TV itself. I would look at your TV manual to see how you can turn the feature on. I hope this helps.

HOW TO HOOK UP TWO SATELLITE RECIVERS THAT I HAVE LIKE MODEL 4000 DISHJNETWORK RECIVER I FOUND IN MY CLOSET AND MY NEW DISH NETWORK RENTED DVR 625 RECIVER HOW TOO HOOK BOTH OF THEM UP TO THE 3 CABLES AND...

Ok since you have A 625 it uses different technology than the 4000 in a sense but I will assume that whomever connected the 625 use a Dish Pro Plus LNB. You can verify this by going out to the dish and looking at the LNB which is the eyes if you will on the dish. The cover facing you will read DP Plus, or Dish Pro, Dish Network, or you may have nothing at all on the housing. You will want it to say DP Plus for the easiest install.
On this LNB there are three ports. You will only need the two on the left if looking at it so you can not read the housing. One of the ports will be connected to a line running to the 625 and the other to the 4000. The line going to the 4000 should not contain any breaks in it after the ground block if one was used. Once inside the house connect the line from the lnb for the 4000 to the back of the receiver. Conect the receiver to the TV and run a check switch. This receiver will go into a test of 1 of 38 if all connections are good. A 1 of 50 indicates a loss of signal somewher on that side of the install.

The 625 can utilize di plexers but that type of install is to detailed to go into straight away so we will connect it using a straight feed to TV2. Run the cable from the LNB into th room with the 625. Inside connect that line to a siver device called a seperator that came with the receiver and connect the two leads from it to the sat in ports on the back of the receiver. Connect a line to the Home distribution port on the back of the receiver and run it to the room with the second tv you want to have DVR in such as a mater bedroom etc.Connect the cable from the tv out port on the receiver to the tv. Power all devices on and run a check switch. This test should read 1 of 3 if all connections are good. A bad connection will read 1 of 38 on the receiver. A total absence of signal will stay at 1 of 1 for a longt ime brfore going to 1 of 38.

You will need to call dish and activate the 4000 rx since it has not been on the account for some time and will need a software update that they will send to it via satellite.

Other obstacles could arise and if they do let me know. Thanks for using Fix Ya.

On screen caller id failure

common problem on 625 receiver. Have you hit menu 6-1-2 to enable caller id? If so call Dish and have them send you a new receiver out and give it a try. I'm sure it won't work every time, but it has to be better than what you have.

DISH Network DVR-625 DTV - AUDIO PROBLEM ON LOCAL CHANNELS ONLY

I am probably stating the obvious here but here it goes:
If the 625 is connected to the tv using coax directly try using the RCA jacks to connect directly to the tv. If the 625 goes through a peripheral first, eliminate that peripheral and conect directly to the tv.If the problem exists with different media connections still at the same tv you can remove the coax off of the TV1(3-4) output on the back of the 625 and attach it to the TV2(CH60-73) output. You would then change your tv channel from 3 or 4 to ch 60air or 73 cable(which will be the same channel that TV2 is normally on in the remote room without the 625) Once you are on the right channel you will be able to tune TV1 to your local channel using the TV2 remote. If the audio is good here it eliminates the TV coax input on the TV1 and the coax cable connecting it as the source of the problem. You will have already eliminated any other inputs on the same tv as being faulty by using the other connecting media leaving you with the internal components of the receiver as being faulty. In this situation I know of no recourse except the obvious.

Lines on TV with DVR-625

try using a better cable from the receiver to the tv. sometimes less expensive cables dont "ground " as well as they should after a few years. the more shielding the better. the cable here will sell you the cable much cheaper then going to any store and its better quality, even if your not a customer of cable.
hope this helps
