You must have a CD.

Make sure the scanner is unlocked.

Try copying from ADF and scanner glass.

X6170 will not scan

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Disconnect your printer from your computer. Reboot your computer. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Try to scan again. Also, make sure the Lexmark OCR scan software is installed on your computer. The scan software is available on the installation disc that came with your printer.

I have a lexmark X6170. Running Windows XP. Recently installed Micorsoft Office 2007. When I double click on the desk top icon or choose to open the program through all programs, the all in one...

To scan, you probably have to use Microsoft Fax and Scan program. It works just fine with the X6170 ... it just took me all afternoon to figure that out.

If this helps you, please come back and vote Yes so that I know I helped someone. Thanks!!

My Lexmark x6170 all-in-one Printer will not scan

I have the same printer, Windows Vista, and also only use the device drivers, but do not experience the problem you are having. The only problem I have with it is that scanning using MS Office 2007 times out before the image can completely transfer. So uninstalling your existing drivers and then reinstalling may do the trick.

If you still wish to install the All-In-One Center software, Lexmark will only provide the device drivers, as you have discovered. However, there are reports that the Lexmark X6100 series AIO (All-In-One) is identical to the Dell A960 AIO. And, fortunately, Dell is kind enough to provide the similar All-In-One Center software.

Click here for the 32-bit Windows Vista version.

Give it a try and please report back as to whether or not it worked for you.
