Try to play my Wii today and can't get any power, I've messed with the plug
moved it to another room, Only 5 mo. old still fairly new unit how's come I can't get any power.
Or you can remove all of the plugs from the console: AC, remote sensor, AV. This is important: You must also unplug the AC from the electrical outlet. Then wait 45 seconds, then plug the AC adapter back into the wall and your console. Power On.
I called the help desk...95% of the time it's because there was a power surge and the fuse inside the AC Adapter shuts the unit down as not to get damaged. If you unplug the power cord from the unit and the socket and let it sit for approximately 2 minutes, the fuse will reset itself and it should work. If not you're looking at parts repair.
I unplugged EVERYTHING and left it there by itself for a few minutes in the dark just sitting there and then i repluged everything and it came back on! :-D
I tried a couple of different variants of this and found the only one to work was:
- Unplug all controller, memory cards etc while the ac was still connected
- Unplug sensor and TV connections.
- Unplug power from socket and then remove ac from wii
- Leave to stand for 1 minute.
- Plug a/c back into wii and then into power socket and turn on power. Like magic the stand by button should light up.
- Plug all other bits it and your back gaming again...
I had the same problem my Wii wouldn't power on after a period of time of not being played. I tried to unplug it, plug it back in for the 90 seconds, wouldn't work. Tried it and left it unplugged for 2 minutes, didn't work. I then unplugged everything.. waited a bit, plugged it into a new outlet without plugging anything else but the power cord, still didn't work. Left it sit unplugged for about 10 minutes, plugged in power only and it powered up.
I had the same problem too. Mine's got "fixed" by unplugging EVERYTHING connected to your Wii. That includes the adapter, sensor bar, TV jacks, SD cards ect...Then leave your Wii alone on a chair or somewhere and wait for a minute. Then replug everything back in. It should work, and if it doesn't...maybe call Nintendo.
Check the back or side of the wii. It has a battery. It died on us too. We replaced it and our Wii worked again. If that doesn't work then you must have a different problem than we did.
I had the same problem, went to use the WII and nothing. No lights or anything. Tried to unplug, replugged nothing. Found little compartment on side unscrewed the screw and replaced the battery. Plugged in, bingo. All is well.
Thank you so much..this is the secon time that it has happened to me. the first time I took out the battery on the bottom and put it back in, this time I tried everything, and your solutions of unplugging everything and letting it sit for a few minutes worked. Thanks again!!
Fiend your solution direct from nintendo. Here is your solution....

Thank yu for this forum on this issue. I went 24 hrs thinking it was the ac adapter. Iunplugged it went to other outlets in the house still nothing. I actually unplugged the ac adapter from the power strip and let it sit for 20-30 min and then read the other stories and tried it again and it came back on no problems. Don't give up better then spending $10-$20 on a new one.
I dropped the Wii down the floor then no power, no light indicators...
I unplugged power for 5 minutes then plugged back ,,, bingo ! it worked
Thanks to Fixya's buddies
We had same problem from power surge this worked unplug all extensions from socket put in cool place wait 10 minutes
If none of those work try a new ac adapter.
REPLACE BATTERY ON BACK OF WII. HAS ONE SCREW. BATTERY HAS GONE OUT ON ME ABOUT THREE TIMES IN LESS THAN A YEAR
Why don't you just take it to Best Buy or where ever you got it from and then exchange it or you could return it and git your $ back!!!!!!!and rate this Fix Ya please!!!!!
I had the same thing except I had to wait 3 hours till it got back on :s it happened again, where can I let my repair my wii?
Wow! Thanks everyone for the pointers. Anyway, unplugging the cord from the power source and the WII console and leaving it disconnected for a few minutes and then plugging everything back in fixed the problem. Thank you all for your comments and help. I was getting ready to buy a new WII--had this one for 4 years with no problems. The power surge thing was probably what triggered the problem. My friends blamed the cat but it was definitely the power surge caused by them telling me that my computer blew a fuse and I needed to check the fuses in the basement. After trial and error--and causing a power surge when I was replacing various fuses--I discovered that they had failed to check to see if the computer was plugged into the wall--it wasn't. They blamed the cat for that, too. LOL.

Oh yeah, that did it... Just unplug AC adapter from both ends and let sit for 3-5 mins. Then reconnect and should pop on no problem. If it dosen't then you must have internal damage.
I Had the same problem.....I unplugged everything for 1 minute and then plugged back in and it worked
This worked great. You guys are the best
Or you could just hold power and reset at the same time, worked for me
OMG! I'm sooo glad this forum was here! I tried everything on here and nothing would work then I went out and bought a replacement power adapter for $5 at Sears and BOOM!!!! SUCCESS!!!! This type of forum is the reason I love the internet.
NNCE is right. If you have anything wrong with any electronic device read the manual first then try calling the maufacturer. Their website is usually always proactive in toubleshooting devices as to maintaince Customer Service Ratings.
If the product is out of warranty BE SURE TO CALL THEM FIRST. Some errors may have extended warranty coverage that is not publicized. Finally, you can then make a decision on what "repair technique" to follow.
Obviously, this problem requires no disassembly/reassembly. I'm just saying, first things first.
After a full day of using the Wii I had turned off the power (at the plug) and when it was turned it back on - no Wii power lights. After 10-15 mins of cooldown the power worked. I followed the steps by some that posted solutions here - waited and waited - tried and tried for several minutes - still now power. Then finally power went back on YEAH!
After coming from our vacation for like 3 or 4 days I came home and went into my room and I turned my wii on and every cord was plugged in,my wii was not damaged either and my wii did not turn on PLEASE HELP ME!

I bought my wii from america. Naturally I used a transformer. For some time in January - february I stopped playing it. Now it doesnt turn on. The transformer is working fine but the wii doesnt turn on and I think its blown up.
Wii is 4 months old. It won't power on.
I stole 2 WII's one from a residence and one from walmart. now they both dont work. no power.Just kidding. the WII I bought at christmas has no power.
I just got my Wii a few weeks ago. Hooked it up and played with it. Went to use it a week later during a party and it would not power up. Tried unplugging, checking connections, etc.
no power, brand new
I'm not gettin any power the system is only 3 months old
I'v tries to move to other outlets and still no power
Wii system is 6 months old. Worked fine one evening, went to power it up the next day, no power...nothing. Unplugged everything, checked outlet, left unplugged for 15 min, etc. and still no power. Short of doing a rain dance, I'm not sure what to do next. We're pretty hacked off about paying so much for the system and LOTS of accessories and this happens after six months. We're going to try to find a new power cord for the system to see if that works. If not, who repairs these things?
I just installed my wii a month ago and, up until last night, it was working perfectly. Sudenly, when i went to check on it, the standby light was off and it was not receiving power. I tried plugging it into other sockets but it would not work. I tried the listed solution but that did not work as well. i even tried letting the chords sit detatched from the system and the electrical socket for one night, i think 10 hours, and it still wouldn't work...
My wii will not power up. No power lights or no power.
Exactly the same, less than one month and no power.
This is not what I call good business. Luckily there's that little thing called a warranty.
Absolutely no power go to console.
I had the same problem. After a thunderstorm my Wii would not power on. I went to my neighbors house and tried connecting to his ac adapater and my wii powered right up. I bought a new ac adapter on ebay for 10 dollars with shipping.
it has no power and all the connections are correct
unplugged it once 2 days old and now it won't turn on again all connections are correct
i had the same problem
My Wii worked fine for 3 mos. and after a rare S.Cal storm all of a sudden no power so i did what jlawson said and unconnected everything and waited about 45-60 secs replugged it all in and it powered right up.
thanks sooooooooooooooo much!!! i was worried!!! I LOVE THE INTERNET and all those who post to help others.
thanks again!!!
Have no power light, hence no power, tried switching off and unplugging everything. then reconnecting everything one by one. Also tried reset, nothing still. Could it be the adaptor or something else? If it is the adaptor where can I get one? Any help would be most appreciated.
My kids were playing there wii and it powered off in the middle of their game. I've tried unplugging the console, and the adapter but cannot get it to come back on. The game is still inside of the console.
