I bought this proscan 40" LCD TV from COSTCO.com three month ago. The TV makes buzz noise when the TV power is off. I tried call COSTCO and they said PROSCAN would contact me. Two weeks now, no any response from PROSCAN. I checked their web site and called their phone number, it is busy all the time. What else I can do?Thanks

Hi
If picture and sound is Ok, and only this buzzing sound is heard from the back of the TV, It should be due to core soose of some ferrite cored transformers inside, especially to the power supply regulator board of the TV. Open the back cover of the TV and swtich it ON. Listeen very carefully which transfromer makes the buzzing noise. Just trouch and press the core of the transformer suspected with some non-cunductive material like glass rod, or a stick of dry wood. You can identify the transformer that makes noise by this way. After identifying the exact transformer; switch OFF the set, unplug it from mains socket, apply some "Super Glue" like fast boanding glue to the joint of core of that transformer. Allow sometime for the glue to set. This will solve the buzzing sound problem of your TV. OK
It just happened to me on 4/7/10. My vizio p50hdm made a popped noise & did not turn on. I purchased the tv at costco on June 2005 w/amex card. I pulled my amex statements from 2005 then called costco with my member # and they found the transaction. If you purchased the tv before 4/2007 the item is grandfathered with the 100% customer garrantee. After 4/2007 the return policy changed to 90 day money back return 2 year warranty and you get an additional year if you purchase w/amex card for a total of 3 years. Be very nice to the Costco people even if they give you an attitude on the return of tv. I got a credit for $2200. I just purchased a samsung led tv 46 series6 back lit & internet. Amazing Technology. & I Love Costco
Same problem here, there is a high-pitched sound in standby. As soon as
the light turns blue and the TV is on it's gone. I actually exchanged
this TV three times at Best Buy but all the models made the same buzz
in standby. I was told that it's normal and in the store you can't hear
it since there is too much humming from other TVs around. The power is
transformed down to a minimum, just for the remote controls, internal
clock etc. and this causes the buzz, like when you dim your lights at
home. I hooked it up to a surge-protector for clean power and just
switch it off over night. During the day it's hard to hear anyway. -
Again, since this is my third (!) Proscan 40' exchange I can definitely
say that this is normal for this model. I was just surprised that
nobody mentioned the same problem so far on the Best Buy reviews.
Watching tv all of a sudden loud buzz noise,I shut off unit turned back on loud buzz came back about 30 seconds later loud pop pop then smoke came out of top of unit, i'm not please as this unit i bought about 17 months ago @ Canadian Tire Belleville & warranty is now not covered, pobably will never buy another Proscan product but am more concerned there could be a fire caused buy this than getting unit replaced
"Proscan used to be the RCA high-end trademark; RCA (at least the TVs) was purchased by Thomson; they leased the proscan name to a Korean outfit that has the TVs made in China.
I've never owned a Proscan (post RCA)... but the internet buzz is that they are of inferior quality and that it's virtually impossible to get support in the USA.
I would qualify that: Costco is selling Proscan TVs; they extend the warranty by one year (to two years); and if you have a problem, ya got Costco behind you.
So I guess unless you buy one at Costco, you should pass"
Perhaps you need to contact the entity at which you purchased the television.
I found this solution on another review, hope it works Model Number:Proscan 26" LCD HDTV w/ Built-in DVD Player26LB30QD "pro: good price, TV picture is clear and DVD player is compatible well. con: sound noise There was hum when I first turned the TV on, then I followed these instructions (found it from other review) to fix the hum issue: 1. Turn tv on 2. Input mode should be tv 3. Turn volume to zero 4. With remote enter 9 8 7 6 5. A menu will appear on left side 6. Arrow down to backlight and with right arrow key move number from 81 to 83, press menu button twice, 7. Turn up volume and listen if hum is gone." It works,no hum."
