Changed router ip now unable to connect...

Hi I have a zhone 6218 and I was having a conflict with ip addresses (zhone and linksys were both set to 192.168.1.1) so I changed the zhone to 192.168.123.1 now I am unable to connect to the zhone (I get an ip address assigned to me) but when I enter http://192.168.123.1 into IE I instantly get unable to view webpage... I tried telnet also but telnet just sits there with blank screen no option to enter un or pw... Any ideas how to connect to router again? I can't restore defaults as it will erase stuff needed for tv (entone)

I have tried it direcly connected (hardwired and wireless) to the zhone. I am wandering if dhcp start address is 192.168.123.1 (router ip address)? opps if it is... whould this cause this behavior?

  • rcp2 Dec 28, 2007

Thanks for the input, but I tried all that stuff before I fixed it, It had me puzzled big time, but what I did to fix it was I downloaded the config file off another router (same setup with tv and all) and restored defaults (held reset button on back of router) then connected to 192.168.1.1 as i did before and restored the backup config file i downloaded. Now all is well again... To fix the conflict I was having I changed the other routers ip as I can connect to it after changing it... It must be a bug in zhone router???

The problem is y did u change in that way? U have to use same subnet address. Change Zhone's IP address to 192.168.1.X
Then another thing is disable dhcp from the router which is not connected to the PC.
Set the default gateway of the PC to the attached router. Set the attached routers default gateway to the router at the other end.
That will solve your problems.
Please rate the answer.
Thanks
:)

Check the IP address settings using ipconfig /all
    (using a command prompt)
Then check settings and make sure u set the DNS address also. And make sure your IP address is not duplicated( not a problem if you are having a single pc)
    Cheers!

Try the configuration connected to the Zhone instead of the linksys.
You can probably configure both from the zhone yet only the linksys from the linksys. I believe routers expect configuration requests from their lan side ports and not the wan port.

When connected to the zhone do the following

    (assuming Windows XP)

Start then All Programs then Accessories then Command Prompt
Enter the following command (1 space after /)

    ipconfig /all

In the resulting display you should see a default gateway address -- that should be the address of the router you are attached to. If it is not 192.168.123.1 as you expect -- it should give you access to the router.

  • Anonymous Dec 26, 2007

If the above does not work statically address the Network adapter in the computer to avoid the DHCP issue and you may then get access to the router.

    Like
    iP Address 192.168.123.15
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway 192.168.123.1

Need to change the NAT setting on my Zhone 6218 DSL modem. How?

try these simple steps...

connect your computer to one of the LAN(wired) ports of router...
check the ip address and default gateway of your local area connection through control panel > network connections.... if you get the ip adress in the range of dlink router then try going to start > run > type "cmd" and hit enter >command prompt will appear... in command prompt type this

start iexplore(default gateway address) and hit enter...you will see the settings page of your modem.... go ahead and disable firewall and enable dmz for your ip address... also forward the ports that are necessary for your gaming device...

Changed the IP address on Zhone 6218-I2, can't access browser UI.

Go to start -> run -> cmd.
When the window comes up, type: "ipconfig". The address that says "Gateway" should be the address of the router.

If that is too confusing, try the following combinations:
192.168.0,1,
192.168.0.254,
192.168.1.254
192.168.2.1
192.168.2.254

Add a Linksys 2.4 ghz range expander

Hello,

You can connect your expander to your PC via ethernet cable and then assign a static IP address on your PC.

To assign a static IP address, just double-click on the monitor icon on the lower right hand corner of your PC and then view status and go to properties. Look for TCP/IP v4 and click properties.

Select use the following IP address:

192.168.1.2
255.255.255.0

and then click OK.

After successfully assigning an IP address to your PC, let's test the connectivity by going to command prompt.

Go to Start>Run>and then type cmd and hit Enter.
Once you're on the black screen type ping 192.168.1.240.
If you get replies then your good to go...

Let's now access the Web UI of the you Wireless expander.
Open a browser and then type on the address bar 192.168.1.240 and then hit enter.

It will prompt you with WRE54G's username and password. Just type the password to login to the Web UI. The default password is admin.

Once your on the Setup page, you have to configure your settings exactly the same as your wireless router (e.g. wireless security, IP address range) except for the SSID. You may want to change the SSID on your WRE54G for you to easily identify where your wireless computer is connected.

You can leave the WRE54G's IP address to 192.168.1.240 if your wireless router's IP address is on the same range like 192.168.1.x

Then on the Gateway address type your router's IP address. If you're also using Linksys the default IP address usually is 192.168.1.1

Then you can configure your wireless settings same as your router. After that, same the settings and see if the light on the WRE54G becomes BLUE. If yes, then you're good to go! You can unplug the PC from the WRE54G and then set your PC's IP address back to Obtain an IP Address Automatically. See static IP address procedure above.

ZHONE 6218 unable to connect

Try to configure you router with WPA authendication. provide some encryption password,if asked. Then configure your lifebook with manual ip by wifi adapter ->network settings-> tcp/ip properties - > specify manual IP something like 192.168.1.2 Now try connecting to your router. It should ask for network key and will connect if key provided matches with the one configured.

Great problem with router zhone 6218

i assume that you're not prompted with the log in screen. if so, you need to check if your computer is properly connected to the LAN/ethernet port of the router (Note: you need to use a hardwired computer if you want a stable connection while checking your wireless settings) and if it has a valid ip address which shoud be within the subnet of the router's ip address (Note: by default the router's ip address is 192.168.1.1 and "admin" is the default username and password)

if you're not sure of the current ip address of the router. go to command prompt and type ipconfig. it'll list there the default gateway which is the router's ip address.

now if you have checked that the computer has a valid ip address and it is properly connected to the router but you can't still access the router's page, there could be a program that is blocking the connection. try to disable any firewall or any antivirus programs installed on your computer.

hope this'll help you. you can click here for the manual if you would like to read some more about the router.

ciao!
