Car sat for six months. Battery went dead and replaced with new one. Got it started after new battery, now it won't start, the alarm led is either flashing bright or very dim flashing fast. I'm sure that it just needs reprogramming, how do you do this. The key fob is working because it will shut off the alarm and lock/ unlock the doors but the alarm may go off again if you open door or hood.

SOURCE: I've been using my key

  • Open the driver's door and climb in. Insert the key into the ignition and quickly pull it out. Do this twice within five seconds.
  • 2 Close the driver's door and open it again. Reinsert the key into the ignition and pull it out. You must do this within 40 seconds.
3 Shut then open the driver's door twice again. Insert the key into the ignition. Close the door. Turn the key to the "On" position but do not crank the engine, Turn the key to the "Off" position and remove it. This must all be done within 40 seconds. If you have done everything properly, the door locks will cycle from unlocked to locked and back again within four seconds. If they do not, repeat this process.
4 Hold down the "Lock" and "Unlock" keys on the remote for one and a half seconds.
5 Press the "Lock" button on the remote for two seconds. The door locks will cycle again indicating successful programming.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. You usually hear clicking when the battery or connection is bad. Since you hear nothing and you have interior power, it is not the battery, alternator, or connection. It appears to be a bad starter, starter solenoid, ignition module, or lock cylinder. Has you key been getting stuck recently? Ever? I would suggest finding your starter and hitting it. When you mess with the panic button, vibrations can trigger the starter, therfore starting the vehicle as you have said. Also, the security/alarm can cause a vehicle to not start also. But first, try hitting the starter. Do you have an alarm light on? Have you tried entering your security code? Let me know please and thanks.
