Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic (32-bit). This is the OS noted on the MS Product Key sticker. Right? You will require the Vista install disc. Just treat the install as a new clean setup. It should be a breeze, depending on the errors you mentioned.
Your other options is to obtain a license / product key for the disc you do have. In any case someone here will more than likely assist when you are ready. GL
It appears the hard disk has been wiped/formatted and does not have an operating system installed.
You need to get a Windows Vista installation CD and if the Windows label
on the bottom of the laptop is still attached then this label has the
product installation code.
Boot up with the Windows Vista installation CD to install the Vista
operating software then you need to install the Presario device drivers.
You can download the device drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB
support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the Windows
drivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download the
drivers: - www.compaq.com/country/cpq_support.html
safe mode is normally used to troubleshoot problems especially software and drivers. where you use this the computer boots up with minimum software running so you can fix problems. I am sure the modem or network drivers are not loaded and ect.
The first thing you need to do is repartition the hard drive. This will effectively erase the drive because partitions run below the OS level.
You create two partitions and then you can load each OS to its own partition. When the box boots you choose the OS you want to start and thats it...I think if you put the preferred OS in the first partition it will load that one by default.
You need both OS disks to do this so make sure your factory Vista disk works.
I just found a way to enable the HP P1006 with a different print server
(Liveprint on Orange Livebox router). Perhaps this might work with the
WGPS606 wireless print server?
I set up the P1006 via the print server as instructed (I'm using Vista 32 Home Premium) but no test page would print.
BUT!! (with thanks to another another forum):
I selected printers, then right-clicked on the wireless printer I'd just installed and selected 'properties'.
Under the 'Ports' tab I deselected 'Enable bidirectional support'.
Problem solved.
Hope this helps.
let me inform you that this printer is not compatible with any wireless
print server. The drawback is that it is not possible to network such
printers. A printer needs a steady flow of data, which is easily
accomplished when it is connected directly to a PC, but cannot be
guaranteed when the printer is connected via a LAN. Also, these
technologies require intensive handshaking between the driver and the
printer.
The host-based software uses the computer's resources to process print
commands and rasterizing data, taking advantage of the computer's
memory and processing power."
Sorry I can't be more upbeat - but its probably useful to know that
someone at HP thinks the job's imposible - unless someone out there has
a fix?
You cannot install Windows XP over WIndows Vista. Microsoft has put a lock on the Vista software and will not allow you to downgrade to a lower software. The only way you can do it is to wipe your hard drive completely clean first with a disk deleting software or with the command "fdisk" at the DOS prompt. However, this is dangerous and I do not recommend it unless you have someone professionally trained to do it. It will wipe everything off of your disk and then you can load Windows XP.

Before you attempt
to use any Wi-Fi network, find out what the SSID, Channel, Mode and WEP
key are. Some Wi-Fi locations do not require a WEP key. Many Wi-Fi
providers have this information on their web site or when you purchase
access you will be provided the information.
Ensure you have a firewall program installed and running. This will protect your data.
Start up your laptop and once booted, look for the Wi-Fi network icon in the bottom right of the screen.
Click on the Wifi Connection icon on bottom right of screen and you
should see a window that indicates connection, strength and duration.
Click on the Properties tab.
The next window will show the type of networking card installed. Click on the Wireless Networks tab.
Once the Wireless Network Connection Properties window is open you
will have two options depending on how you set up your laptop.
If you
do not see any networks listed in Preferred or Available networks, you
will have to manually add the SSID. Click on Add.
You will have to enter the SSID and WEP key (if required). Click OK and
you should then see the network you just added in the Available
networks box.
If you see the correct SSID showing in the Available Networks, then
you need to click on Configure in order to enter the WEP key if that is
required.
In the next window, enter the SSID for the Wi-Fi network you want
to access. Make sure you do not have CAPS lock or NUM lock while
entering the information. If a network key is required, click on "Data
Encryption and then enter the Network key you have been provided with.
Again make sure you do not have CAPS or NUM lock on. Click OK when
entered. If you have entered the key incorrectly a message will pop up
and you will need to re-enter the key.
Next go to Start - and where it says Connect To click on that and
you should see choices like in the graphic below. Click on Wireless
Network Connection and it should work.
There are
occasions when the connection doesn't work, in these cases check your
firewall software and make sure it allows you to connect to the Wi-Fi
network. To check this, disable your firewall software and check the
connection again. If you can connect with the firewall program
disabled, you change your settings. If your firewall program is not the
problem check the SSID and WEP key information that you entered. Both
of these are case sensitive. If you had obtained SSID information from
the Internet, check with someone in the establishment to see if the
SSID has been changed.
