I have a Award 1998 PCI/PNP 686 bios chip and need to be able to use hard drives 80 MB and over. Is it possible to replace the chip or can it be reprogrammed? I had used a Maxtor Ultra 200 V2.01 bios board for some years to run 80 MB drives. The board died and Segate now owns Maxtor and does not support. Thanks for your help.

Still looking??. Have a pci/pnp 586, gently yanked off a a MB with a hobbyknife.
Seems like a working chip, pins kinda short now but all are intact

Click on Start >> Run, type services.msc and press Enter.
In the services window, double click on the Windows Audio Service and make sure that the startup type is automatic. Click on Start/Restart button and then check.

Hi there.
Try clearing the cmos
<<<<< you will see in the picture a plastic jumper (in this case coloured green), move it to the other position and hit the on/off button, then put it back in its original position and power up the machine again. Hopefully the issue will have been sorted. If there is no jumper remove the battery for an hour and make sure the power cord is removed from the back before you clear the cmos

The BIOS (Basic Input output System) on your motherboard has become corrupted and the computer can't boot normally. The Bootblock is a "failsafe" device that allows the computer to boot far enough to use the floppy disk drive, even though the rest of the BIOS code is scrambled.

How do you think this happened? The most common cause is people trying to "update" the BIOS and messing up the flashing process. Sometimes some particularly nasty viruses can wreck the BIOS code as well.

Now this might be fixable. You will need to download a known good BIOS from Iwill's website and the Award BIOS flashing utility. Then you will need a bootable floppy disk (DOS) to start the computer. You will have to copy the BIOS .BIN file over to the floppy beforehand and the flashing utility. There will be information on the Iwill website on how to flash the BIOS.

I just did a quick Google search using the motherboard details you provided and came up blank ....

If you can't get the BIOS flashed and usable again then I'm afraid it's time for a new motherboard/computer.

try to download and install a USB driver or came with your motherboards cd it has a usb driver too. hope that helps!
