My xbox controllers will not charge with the plug in kit. The light turns red, then either immediately green, or it starts to blink red-off-red-off.

The red light means its charging, then when its done charging it turns green briefly then the lights and charger turn off and the controller is ready.

Both issues might be to the same problem.

First problem number 1... you should try using some AA batteries and try to see if you still get the disconnect issue when pressing the X button repeatedly. If so then you have either a bad controller or you have some interference with your controller and other device that might be messing with the 2.4Ghz radio frequency. (Note: that sometimes metal frames and some wires can also bleed signals.)

If your controller works fine with the AA batteries then the issue is likely your rechargeable battery.

Secondly problem number 2... I have had similar issues with batteries. often times it is just because you have reached your limit with your charging on your battery. If you are an avid gamer then this might be the issue. You might want to try the tweak to getting your charger to work again:

"First insert the play and charge kit a little way in just enough to make a contact but not enough to click into place - light goes red - when light goes green slide it out a bit so the green light on the play and charge kit goes out - The green light on the controller should stay on, count to 2 in you head then slide it back in again like before. As soon as the light goes green to tell you its charged slide it back out again I had to do this 3 - 4 times then as if by magic the light should just stay red and carried on charging."

First thing to do is check your USB ports on the console. Plug in a flash drive or anything into all 3 USB ports to test them. If they all work you have eliminated the console as the source of the problem.
Alternatively, if you believe it may be the play and charge kit itself, simply plug it into any usb on any pc with a controller attached. If the red charging light turns on, it is working properly.
If both check out it simply means it's time to replace the battery pack in the controller. They have a life cycle depending on usage, and they vary greatly.

try pressing the circle button on top of your controller right next to where you plug in your play and charge cable and you should see a little white button hold it and there is another one on your xbox right next to the second memory card slot. Press and hold that one to till both your xbox and controller start blinking and your controller should be fine

Dell or Panasonic? Your post has both listed.

If the blinking light on a Dell is yellow or amber or orange (somewhere in that color range) and continues to blink the entire time it is plugged into AC power (wall outlet) and when you unplug it from the wall the laptop immediately dies .... then you battery is dead and needs replaced.

If the blinking light stops after a while (perhaps a minute?) and then turns green while plugged into AC power, then it is successfully charging - or so it thinks.

When you unplug it from the wall, does it stay up and running?
If it runs, it's OK - just ignore the light and plan on getting a new battery one day, start browsing now. :)
If it dies immediately upon unplugging, then your battery is dead and needs replaced.

Basically an xbox battery has a built in 'memory' that it tells the xbox how much charge is in it and the problem with rechargable batteries is that if they're not used for a while and left at room temperature their charge begins to dissipate so when you plug it in the battery 'thinks' it's charged and tells the xbox the same when in truth it's not. What to do is keep plugging and unplugging the charger on top (waiting until the light comes on) until the charger light stays red (as opposed to going red then immediately green) the small amounts of charge put in each time will eventually give the battery enough juice to clue it as to just how much power it REALLY has in and will then start charging as normal.

There is a small white button on the front of the console, and one on the front of the controller, push both so the controller and console will recognize each other. Also if you have a play and charge kit you can try plugging the controller directly into the xbox usb port. That should work.
