Vista is stuck in a startup loop where recovery and restore do no good. It started with a dll problem, I tried to use recovery console, it did no good, I did a full factory restore, and afterwards it didn't want to start windows at all, so I made a ubcd4win (I just went with default plugins) disk, did some reovery work and got it to the point where I was able to run vista recovery, then ran a full scan with malware bytes, and removed two trojans, it seemed to be back to 100 percent, but after a day or two, it slowed back down and still showed dll's missing, so I ran chkdsk and left it running overnight and now windows won't start at all ( I should explain I am doing this as a favor for my neighbors, so I don't know exactly what happened betwwen chkdsk running and the next day when I was told it was acting up I don't know, are there any good plugins for ubcd4win or bootable iso recovery programs you could recommend, if so how exactly do I add boot options or plug ins to ubcd4win, or should I tell them they have to get a new copy of vista? I checked and emachines no longer offers a recovery disk for this model, maybe a gateway recocery windows disk? I am at the end of my rope with this freakin thing, but I really hate looking like I broke it in the process of fixing it.Also freeware would be preferred, because I spend all my money on college bills andd they are currently laid off. thank you in advance.

How to obtain Vista recovery Media and/or use the Vista Recovery Partition on your computer to put it back to Factory Settings.

There is no legal free Vista download available.

Contact your Computer Manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of Vista Recovery disk/s.

They normally do that for a small $ cost.

You can try to do a system restore using the system recovery.

There are different ways for doing a system recovery on XP computers and on Vista or Windows 7 computer.

Assuming you are using Windows Vista
On boot press the F11 key repeatedly, When you reach the Recovery manager screen select Advance options.

Select the option do restore the computer to an earlier time.

It will show you the restore points

Select the best restore point and try to do a restore

If system restore does not work then you will have to follow the same steps to perform a system recovery by selecting the option to restore the computer to its original factory condition.

When you boot up hold down the F8 button on your keyboard until you see start up options then click on start up repair

If you are the original owner call gateway and have then send you a recovery disk

Did you happen to make a recovery point? Vista is pretty good about this. Restart your system and push f8 until you get to the recovery and troubleshooting. Then just use recovery console and restore it to a previous point. If you cant do this you might need to do a fresh install of vista.

Windows Vista is not starting due to missing or corrupt files.
Run Startup Repair using Vista Operating System disc

1. Place the Windows Vista Media Backup DVD into to the optical drive and start the computer.
   
2. Press any key to boot from CD or DVD.
   
3. On the Install Windows screen, click Next.
   
4. On the Install Windows screen, select Repair your computer.
   
5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Next.
   
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, select the appropriate operating system, and then click Next.
   
7. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, select Startup Repair.
   
8. The Startup Repair attempts to locate and resolve issues with the computer.
   
9. If prompted, Do you want to restore your computer using system restore?, click Restore.
   
10. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Finish. This screen can vary, dependant on if a problem was found or not.
    
11. System restarts.
    
12. If the problem was resolved, the computer restarts into Vista.
    
13. If the problem was not fixed, the error may present itself again.
    
14. Run Startup Repair again.
    
15. If Startup Repair runs more than three (3) times, when available, select View advanced options for system recovery and support.
    
16. For further troubleshooting, select one of the following options:
    
    • System Restore
    • Command Prompt
    • Last resort - Recovery Manager. Recovery Manager is not available if accessing WinRE via Vista OS Backup Media DVD

or you can use any software that can repair and recover your windows files.
