My kingston 8 gb data traveller suddenly became skymedi storage device.i cannot access it. can anybody help? thanks.

That device uses the standard USB storage driver in Windows. Try the device in a working Windows 7 machine. It will mount or you will see a message about formatting the drive. If it mounts your Vista is corrupted and needs fixing/reloading. If windows 7 wants to reformat the USB device, the USB device is likely corrupted and the data is lost. Or is could have been formatted for a Mac and cannot be read directly on Windows.

PS - $80 for a 4 gb USB drive is too much in the current market. You should be able to replace it for $10 or less.

Yes, this is common......i stay in bangalore but I had visited Delhi once and I purchased Kingston Data Traveller at (Palika Bazaar) n the box had 8 GB on it and it was a sealed pack.....i connected the same to my PC and checked it said it is full.....I formatted it and then I came to know that it was not 8 GB but it was 512 MB......

in fat32 or NTFS
IN which NTFS is better

and also IT· Allows creation of a FAT32 volume larger than 32 GB.

You can follow the below commands

got to run

type cmd and press enter

then formatdrive name: and press enter

then it will ask for yes or no

press y

again do the above step once again your drive will be format

Found this on Kingston site, doesn't help much but may point you in the right direction.

Unfortunately this unit does not have any security or write protection feature. If you receive a write protection message with this drive, check for the following:

1. Verify that you are allowed to write to removable storage devices. There may be a security setting in the OS that disables write access to removable storage devices.

Dude I just fixed mine running the SKYMEDI tool version SK6211BA_20080917 on my 8GB kingston datatraveler 100 is hard to get it but you will find it, you need to determine what version of the sw applies to your flash drive, check the SKYMEDI website www.skymedi.com.tw
